I thought I read somewhere (maybe it was HighDefDigest) that there was a Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy box set coming in December that had a lot of extra content not available anywhere else.

Was this in fact reported back in June/July???

Yes there is a trilogy box coming. Although to my knowledge it comes with the same extras as buying each movie individually.

Yeah, I was curious about this too. With the 2 films available at Best Buy for $30 this week I'm seriously tempted to get them. Although I'd be pissed if the framing issue is corrected in the boxset and the studio doesn't offer some sort of trade in program.

I was thinking of purchasing the two of them also. I've been on a spending spree this week on movies. Dropped by Fry's yesterday and bought a bunch of discs for 10 dollars. Going tomorrow to potential buy 4 movies. And then Transformers HD-DVD on Tuesday. But boy am I glad to get in on these fantastic deals.

I already own the first two, so a box set doesn't interest me. In fact, I think that sort of thing is very annoying, and I applaud the studios that offer workarounds for people that already own the individual discs. LOTR, for example.. when they released the big box set of all three Extended Editions, they offered the empty box for free to people who owned the three separately. I took 'em up on it, so I've got a cool-looking (and huge) LOTR box on my DVD rack.

They seem to be getting away from that in many cases these days, though, and simply wrapping the separate films in one wrapper and selling it that way. Kind of worthless.

As for POTC, I haven't heard anything about extra features for the box set, and I assume each film will include the already-released extras from the current DVD and Blu-ray releases. And there's not really a strong indication that the series is actually over, so buying a box set now is kind of a waste if more films are on the way. Warner Bros doesn't seem to understand this, judging by their releasing the HP movies in a box set that's already known to be missing two entire films. So, like POTC, I'll be buying that one as separate discs as well.

I just want a box that looks like the treasure chest from DMC to hold all 3.:)

Don't tell me none of the Disney marketing guys haven't thought of this yet.

I assumed the box set was being released the same day as the third movie. It seems I was mistaken. Anybody have any insight?

Any updates on a potential/expected box set?

I just got my PS3 for Xmas(soley for BR movies right now) and the PoTC trilogy was one of the major factors.

I was wondering if anyone had updates/insight into it?

I am wondering if Disney is "remastering" the disk to take advantage of Profile 1.1 or 2 so that the IME/PIP/etc works better than their earlier attempts..this title seems like one that could take advantage of web enabled content also.

I just watched Cars last night, and while the Cine-Explore was cool and had fun stuff, the implementation under profile 1 was TERRIBLE!!. My screen would blank out, I would then get the Play icon on the screen, then it would jump to whatever the insert was...going back to the movie/commentary, my screen would actually show "NO SIGNAL" for a second while it re-synced.

So, I'm assuming that this never transpired then. Anyone aware if a box set is forthcoming (I googled it without much luck)? I'm a late adopter to Blu, so wouldn't mind getting all 3 in one shot.

do you guys actually like the 2nd and 3rd films that much? i really enjoyed the first and blind bought the second on bluray and got the third with pepsi points on dvd and i now believe that this series should have stopped at 1 movie. i don't mean to come into the thread and be mr. negative, but i really feel that parts 2 and 3 are simply horrendous...even for family films.

after seeing these sequels, it makes me fear for the upcoming bioshock movie because gore verbinski is rumored to be directing it. yikes ahoy!

I think they're alright and compare favorably to the first. They do have some cool moments.

However, the problem I have is that they're just too long. You know how with some movies they'll do a standard cut for theaters, then do an overblown extended edition? (Not that all EEs are overblown, but some are.) It feels like they were planning that with the sequels, but decided at the last minute to just put the extended editions in the theater as the standard cuts.

I received a survey through the Disney Movie Rewards site that asked about trilogy release possibly later this year.

They said that I was receiving because of recent purchases I had made. I assume that it was POTC 1 & 2.

...and for anyone still interested who missed the release news earlier this summer...

Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on Blu-ray September 16th
(http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/01/pirates-of-the-caribbean-trilogy-on-blu-ray-september-16th/)

To be released with nothing new; just repackage of the single movies already released, for the sake of latecomers like me.

Not that great when you can get each individual one for ~$17 to $20.
