Not sure what to do. I signed up to gameznflix to rent both HD DVD and Wii/360 games. Thus far I'm iffy about their service but that's another convo in itself.
I received Fearless and Rundown this week. Rundown pops up instantly with an error. After some cleaning I still get the same issue. Fearless works fine up to about 1/3 the way and then locks up and gives me a read error. I cleaned this one as well and seems to lock up at the same point in the film.
The disks look OK to me but I can see very faintly some markings that the disks were repaired with one of those machines. Do you guys think it's just the disks are pressed bad or if the repair work damaged them some more. This really bugs me. Thusfar my own personal HD DVDs have no issues so I figured this wouldn't be an issued with my player (granted I haven't finished watching ALL my personal HD DVDs :D).
I'm playing these films on my HD-A2.

The repair worked damaged them... Basically when a HD DVD is scratched, it often becmes a coaster since they do not have a protective coating.
If Fearless is the combo version, it is possible that after all of this time that the disc may have been become unplayable due to manufaturing defects. Although for a combo disc, I don't believe there were any problem with that title.

Wow I think that statement is in error. Try this one. Basically when a HD DVD is scratched like a standard DVD it is most likely repairable. When a BD is scratched through it's protective coating it becomes a coaster.
Yes Fearless is a combo disk. I guess I'll just watch the remaining film in SD :(
As for Rundown, I'm SOL

Is your player updated to the latest firmware? If not then update it. Also try holding down the power button on the player for ten seconds (not the remote) until it shuts down then when you power it back on it will re-boot.

Nope..
The pits are so compact on HD DVD, and Blu-ray, that standard repair tool in the market can not repair scratches on them. Relatively, it take a lot more of a scratch to affect a Blu-ray disc. Blu-ray developed this protective layer as part of their standard due to the problem standard DVD's have had with scratches.

BD developed the protective coating because the active layer is so close to the top surface not because of any concerns with standard DVD's.

That has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, why post it? HD-DVD's are repairable if scratched, Blu-Ray disks are not repairable if they are scratched. They have the protective coating so that they could encode data onto the disk nearer the surface in order to store more data on the disk. BD Disks are difficult to scratch, they are more likely to crack at the edges or near the hub.
