View Full Version : Is Transformers HDDVD a combo?
ekstudman 10-14-07, 08:34 PM For those of you who already own the Transformers HD-DVD, is it a combo disc? I am planning on buying a player sometime soon, but haven't made the commitment yet. However, I don't want to buy it on HD if I can't watch it yet, and I don't want to have to buy it twice, on SD and HD. Thanks for any responses.
tormond 10-14-07, 08:37 PM Nope it isn't
theone2 10-14-07, 08:37 PM it's not a combo
SBrooks1 10-14-07, 08:40 PM No.....thank God
lockheede 10-14-07, 08:56 PM Just priced like one...
Priced like one due to the extra disc. But retail seems to be getting a little better BB has it for $29.99 rather then $34.99
meatball_84 10-14-07, 09:51 PM if your planning on getting a player, buy it in HD or you'll kick yourself in the ass when you get your player, I picked up MI3 on SD when it came out, and i was like, " should i just get the HD since im planning on getting a player" Well i didnt pick up the HD then I bought my 360 add on like 2 weeks later.
Why the combo hate? I love it when a title is a combo so I can watch it in the bedroom.

I agree 100%. Hopefully Paramount doesn't change their plans anytime soon.

I'm of the opinion that DVD's need to be left behind. Combo DVD's to me are like full screen DVD's. They should have never been made. If consumers in general are to embrace HD-DVD's then they need to do so and leave DVD behind. We who have embraced it shouldn't be forced to pay a higher price because the movie studio wants to placate the common consumer in general.
dalamchops 10-14-07, 10:35 PM It's pretty obvious what the better choice is. Universal is the only studio left producing it.

Of course not. It's too expensive to be a combo. :D

By refusing to "placate common consumer" HDM will ensure that 90% of all content selection continues to be available only on DVD.
This approach will mean high end buyers get a choice of only a small range of titles and probably settle for some movies because it's all that is available in high def. :(

I want combo simply because my wife and I bring movies with us to friend's places to watch sometimes. I'd love to go HD but I don't want to get it if I can ONLY watch it in my living room...

If anything, this is why studios need to release both a combo and non-combo at the same time. I on the other hand won't touch combos with a 10-foot poll. I have no need for the DVD side and will not pay extra for something I won't ever use. I also don't wan't to deal with the headaches associated with the playback (or lack thereof) of combo's.
I wish it were a combo. that way the kids can take it home when they go with their mother. now i might have to get both formats? hd dvd/dvd:eek:

Dude, let their mother buy the other copy!

First time in the HD DVD-forum?

I own an HD DVD player and completely agree with the logic of your statement. I have the HD setup in the living room and the SD setup in the bedroom, honestly it sort of blows not being able to watch half of my movie collection in my bedroom. Sure, the bedroom will get the upgrade...but I wasn't planning on it anytime in the near future (although my inner Sci-Fi geek is tempted by the HD-A3 special offer for the phaser remote).

Exactly. Until HD players get cheap enough (read- current DVD player prices) then there is obviously a need for combos. I like them because I can watch it in HD at my place but can still take it to my buddy's and pop it in a standard DVD player. Not to mention the problem the quoted guy has which is that he doesn't wanna go to the hassle of moving a player around just to see a movie.
Roachgod 10-15-07, 10:56 PM Is the second disk in the HD Transformers also a HD DVD disk?
Digital Man5 10-15-07, 11:25 PM Wish they'd of put out a single disc HD DVD version as well, for around $19.99. I thought the movie was alright, but that's about it. No way I am dropping $30 on it, but $20 would have been do-able.
Is the second disk in the HD Transformers also a HD DVD disk?
Yes both discs are HD-DVD discs
