CCity has been advertising buy 1 get 1 free on select BD's starting tonight. Went in tonight and saw the bin. To quell my disappointment at NOT having the deal for HD, I grabbed 3 titles off the shelf:

Sneakers
Swordfish
Poseidon

They're marked $24.99 and it rang up ~$53 and some change after tax for the 3. After inspecting my receipt, it showed one title full price, and the other two were half off, making 3 HD DVD's the price of 2. I went back and repeated this with:

The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Corpse Bride.

6 HD DVDs for ~$106 is about $17.66/ea.

Not too bad! YMMV (Columbia, SC)

Edit: Confirmed by myself and others to infact be B1G1 Free! HD DVD's for $12.50-$15.00 each!

Yo OP, BD or HD-DVD? Stay away from the glue before starting threads.

He said 3 HD DVDs for the price of 2 in the OP. Besides that, this had to be HD DVD - Sneakers is a Universal title. The rest were Warner, though. Maybe the Warner titles are even BOGO - guess we'll find out from others who are close to a CC :).

Edit: This does not work online - at least the titles he mentioned. The online prices are horrid anyway compared to in-store.

Some of the 'vulture' sites are reporting BOGO instead of B2G1 - I hope this holds true today as I'll take a trip down there. CC is too far from me or I'd try to head out there at lunch.

I check the Sunday Circuit City ad but did not see any mention of this or the Blu-Ray. Best Buy is having BOGO on Blu-Ray.

Edit: The B1G1 Free that most sites have been talking about probably pertains to BD. I had seen it advertised and CCity had a special bin of select BD's to choose from for the deal. There was no mention of a B2G1 Free deal on HD DVD, I discovered it by accident when I checked out. I'll be picking up Transformers tomorrow along with 2 more random titles.

It might be worth trying to just pick up one more title to see if both end up half off. If so, you might be able to bring your other stuff back and buy all 6 together and 3 free instead of just 2. Fingers crossed it is BOGO and not a mistake :-).

I bought several BD's yesterday based on this deal and the store itself had no advertising of the sale at all. The sales people knew absolutely nothing of it until I brought disks to register and they indeed rang up at B1G1.

This appears to be a sale that is in the system but often not at all advertised.

I wondered if it might apply to hd dvd at all but didn't try it, I'll have to now. In other threads for BD there were also specific titles listed. Does anyone know for sure if this is a specific title sale or if all movies are affected?

CC is emulating BB these days. Promotions are not marked in the store. I don't understand the point of having a big promotion and no one customer or staff has any idea it is going on. This is definitely a page out of the BB official playbook.

i bought shooter and flags of our fathers both were stickered at $29.99 but on reciept each shows as $15.00. also lists "00000003241B PROMO PACKAGE" as an itme on the recipt with price of .00. As always YMMV but its worth a shot if you have a CC near you. it would be nice if this is still working tomorrow when transformers comes out.

I was waivering on trying this tomorrow on Transformers, or just going in today and pick up a couple of titles I wanted to make sure I could get in on the deal in case it goes away. Anyways, I went in today and picked up Phantom of the Opera and Cinderella Man for $26.61 (after tax). It rings up as buy 1 get 1 free Blu Ray promotion. I'm going to go in tomorrow and see if it is still working with Transformers.

Circuit City has bad customer service that most people end up going to Best Buy. By doing it this way, they make sure that you cannot take their ad over Best Buy for price match.

Circuit City will make you come to their stores to talk to their sale people. Unfortunately, if you are in the Washington DC, Northern Virginia area, none of the Circuit City sale associates can speak English!!!!!!!

Hopefully my speculation is wrong.

Nice! I suppose this is not really limited to specific titles on HD DVD? I saw mention above of a bin for the BD titles but nothing about HD DVD titles. I suppose the only way to find out is pick up what I want and see if it works.

My CC on 86th street in NYC did have the BOGO promotion marked on the Blu-ray rack. It had a list of all the titles that qualified on a poster-type ad, broken out into two groups, $25 and $30 titles.

Interestingly, among the $30 titles listed on the ad was Bobby, which is a Weinstein Company release and never came out on HD-DVD or BD.

When you ring up your HD DVDs it comes up as a Blu Ray promotion, so imo it's a circuit city mistake. If you want some things I'd suggest getting in on it asap. I'll be returning tomorrow to see if Transformers will work, and if it does, I'll probably return one of the titles I got today. So don't miss out on this deal just because you want to try it on Transformers tomorrow!

No problems with them speaking English at the Potomac Mills CC.

Just wondering, were these titles the same price? I've seen some speculation that each must be the same price, or that it won't work with a title over $30.

I think the salesperson who rung you up didn't input the package, because I work at CC and had no clue about this deal until reading it on here last night. So this morning I tried ringing up a bunch of titles and they would all come up $12.50 or $15 because the package range in the system is for movies priced 24.99-29.99. Definitely hoping this works tomorrow when I get Transformers.

My local CC refuses to match Fry's... or Walmart.

My local CC City did the same thig to me when i went to buy a Sharp 42 LC42D64U lcd from them. The local competition had it on sale for $1499, and
they refused to match it.I waited a few weeks and ended up getting it for $1384 delivered.Only goes to show that CC doesn't price match anything when they don't feel like it.That was the last time I'll ever go to that store. As for the HD DVD's they had mostly older titles and not too many at that.Even their BlueRays(which were on sale in a bin)were almost nothing but launch titles, which isn't bad if that's what you're looking for.

The cashier at my CC did know what was going on. She said it was only the 24.99$ titles that were BOGO. Sure enough, TMNT (34.99$) didn't get half off. Scorpion King (29.99$) did not take half off. Blades of Glory (29.99$) was a no-go as well (even with SK as the 2nd title). She said it wouldn't work on them and was correct :). However, Van Helsing, Mummy Returns, Bourne Identity, Dune, Serenity, Hulk (all 24.99$) rang up 12.50$. She didn't have to do anything. This must be YMMV for the 29.99$ titles working.

Doesn't look good for Transformers ringing up half price for my area. I have a Target gift card to use anyway and some Cokes to buy (4/12$ - not a terrible price) as well.

This NEEDS to have its own thread, as the other that is titled B2G1 is not accurate!

Just got back from CC (after purchasing 40 mixed Blu-ray/HD-DVD titles) and spoke with the manager.

He said it was unadvertised because it was decided that this sale would happen only a couple weeks ago - AFTER the sales materials had been prepared. He said he was told by corporate to "do nothing" (not sure why, exactly).

It is also apparent that not EVERY store has the offer in the system. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THEM FOR VERIFICATION AND ASSUME THEY KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!! I just called the store I bought them at, and the person who answered the phone said that the sale didn't exist. Clearly they are confused. If you claimed that your store didn't have the promotion and you didn't try in-person, let me know and I will take it off the list.

All Houston stores have been verified by me and it looks like many Southern Cal stores have the same deal based on other posts.

I will accumulate the list of stores in my post if you want to post below that it is verified or send me a PM.

Stores that work:

All Houston (city) stores (haven't tried Houston surrounding areas)
Fredericksburg, VA
Columbia, SC (Both locations here)
Mt Laurel, NJ

Stores that do not work:

Sterling, VA
Fairfax, VA (NOT confirmed in person)
NC (across from Crossroads)
St. Cloud, MN

I successfully did a return/rebuy for B1G1 on the 6 movies I had purchased. Because they were split 3/3 on two seperate receipts, I missed out on a free movie. After returning them and repurchasing on a single ticket, I the total was about ~$26 less, which I had her put on a gift card. I used this gift card to purchase Knocked Up and the Breakfast Club. Both of these were $29.99 and rang up $15.00. Originally I had Hot Fuzz ($34.99) and it was a not eligible. So whoever said it was only $24.99 and $29.99 titles had it right.

So in the end, here's what I got:

The Mummy - $12.50
The Mummy Returns - $12.50
Corpse Bride - $12.50
Poseidon - $12.50
Sneakers - $12.50
Swordfish - $12.50
Knocked Up - $15
Breakfast Club - $15

$105 plus tax!

i just picked up some movies. it certainly does work if you get the right person to ring you up. i went to two circuit citys, the first one i tried wouldn't give me any hddvds with the bogo promo even though the promo does ring up. they said the promo states blu-ray so they wouldn't sell me the hddvds. so i picked up a a couple bluray movies both priced differently 24.99 and 29.99.

so i went to another circuit and picked up two hddvds, rundown and dawn of the dead, 24.99 each and got the bogo deal. i'll probably go back there tomorrow and try to get the deal with transformers.

It worked at Gwinnett Place CC for the 24.99$ titles. I tried 2 29.99$ titles and a 34.99$ title and none worked. Maybe some of the 29.99$ titles don't work and others do??? They did not have Knocked Up or Evan Almighty in stock - I had tried Scorpion King & Blades of Glory. TMNT @ 34.99$ didn't work.

Edit on Success:

Dune
Serenity
Mummy Returns
Bourne Identity
Van Helsing
Hulk

Failure to Launch, Meet the Parents & Meet the Fockers also worked but I didn't buy. Mummy & Bourne Supremacy also worked but I already own them :-).

Are people that are having success, buying the HD-DVD titles alone? or are they also mixing in the Blu-Ray titles that actually qualify for the BOGO deal?

Arrgh! Does AVS have a 12 step program ?!?

I just bought an armload of Blurays from Best Buy yesterday. I popped over here to check on some HD title availability and couldnt help but click this thread.
And now I must go there to buy some HDDVDs. Already got it rationalized, I need to swing USPS and Office Depot tomorrow and Circuit City is like right next door. :)

good thing i'm single or i'd probably be catching some serious S.O. grief ;)

I got something from CC, either in the mail or e-mail about this. I checked my e-mail 'advertisement of the week' and didn't see it. The deal is limited to just a few selections. The page I saw had both BD and HD DVD listed. I forgot all about it till I saw this thread.

Well, CC has screwed the pooch on this one IMO. Some stores are BD only, other aren't doing it at all, while some do both BD and HD. They should have just waited a week or two so they could correct the confusion.

Also, for clarity: There was a sign posted in the BD section at my CC store that said it was a BD ONLY sale and listed the titles that were part of the sale...

HOWEVER, it also said: Titles will vary by store.

With that I had them check and YES, BD and HD were all included so long as they were $29.99 or less.

NOW, and this is the savvy shopper in me, but wouldn't a Circuit City that claims NOT to have this sale be obliged to match a different CC? Might work; worth a shot for those of you that are having difficulties.

Good luck gang! :D

Anyone try any MI stores yet?I just got back from the Roseville store and it worked for me, twice. I got the following all for $12.50 each:

The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
Lucky # Slevin
Swordfish
Apollo 13
Backdraft

I first used the 2 Bourne movies as a test. I went to a register (was surprised to see a register actually open instead of having to go through customer service) and asked the girl there if she could check if there was any buy one get one free promotion on these. She rang up the first one but wasn't paying too much attention and just quickly pressed enter on the popup that showed up. They both showed up at normal price, no promotion. I told her that I thought I saw something quick in the popup about buy one get one free and asked her to re-do it. She did, this time paying more attention and noticed that the popup window had 2 choices. "1" was default which just rang them up at normal price, but "2" was for the buy one get one free. It did say Blu-Ray but she wasn't paying that much attention to that fact. After selecting "2" the screen displayed the promotion but she then had to re-scan both movies.

After leaving the store I went back in and selected the other 4 movies and went to the same girl. This time she had no problem ringing them up, having to select the promotion after each set of 2. After she rang me up and gave me back my change, someone, maybe a manager but I'm not sure, showed up asking about this promotion. He was asking if it popped up on it's own or if she had to force it and was also asking if it took half of the price off of each movie or if it had one listed at full price and the other listed as free. She said that it popped up on it's own and that it did reduce the price of each item by half. He said that he'll have to look into it. At this point I left. I hope I didn't mess it up for anyone as I plan to go back tomorrow for more :)

CC on 17 North, Paramus NJ - no BOGO on HD DVDs

Picked 2 titles to see what would happen, and at the register was told "it is for Blu Ray only". I asked to speak to a manager and she replied that it came from the evening manager himself, as others have tried to buy HD DVDs before me. Guess I'll try tomorrow afternoon (again) when a different manager is on duty.

On a seperate note, this CC is definitely pushing BD they had displays, players and promos all over the place.:(

I asked, well why did it come up as b1g1 for the HD DVD then? She said she was told that it was all BD were b1g1 and none of the HD DVD. Which sucks , because on BD they had almost nothing good, but I would have gotten at least 10 HD DVD.

Here's my take. The promotion is for ALL HDM, otherwise, the promo package would not pop-up on scanning an HD DVD UPC (Edit: One of my tickets was HD only, no BD). They're simply using the same promo code as the Blu-ray sale... So counter-jockeys see BLU-RAY in the promo description and freak out. At this point, it really seems to depend on the disposition of the clerk.

Ladies and gentleman, I decided to not wait until tomorrow and went to Circuit City tonight. I went in picked up Casino and 40 Year Old Virgin and walked up to the cashier. I asked her to ring them up and see if any promo pops up. She rang Casino up and a little "S" appeared to the left of the item line on the moniter. She clicked it and it said "Blu-ray Buy One Get One Free". Then she rang up 40 Year Old Virgin and the same thing was there. But at the bottom under Subtotal it said "Discount - $25.00". She goes "Are those Blu-ray?" I said "No but I guess they are BOGO too" She said "Yup" :D

So YES I can confirm that even though the discount does say Blu-ray BOGO, it does work for HD-DVD's too!!! :D

What I dont understand is, why are some stores allowing HD DVD and not others. Is it truly a mistake and they will all stop tomorrow after emails go out, or are other stores just not knowing about the promo. Kinda pisses me off because they only had 2 BD movies that i wanted, yet I would have been happy to buy at least 20 different HD titles they had. What makes even less sense is that another poster on here was at the same store i was at, like 15 minutes before me...and they did do the HD DVDs for him.

I'm going to give my GPS a workout and visit every damn CC near me tomorrow.

I actually tried Miami Vice and Children of Men, but wasn't aware that it only applied to $29.99 and under titles, so I assumed that nothing applied to HD-DVD period.

In So. Cal. CC (just got back with 8 HD-dvds and 2 BluRays), you might have to ask the cashier to ring the HD-dvds as the combo b1g1 free bluRay deal. Works out to about $15 per title (6 each $29.99 & 4 $24.99 each full price). My favorite 3: Knocked up, Next, Blades of Glory and Vacancy (BR).

I should have resisted... After 14 more from Amazon.com, I'm damned broke again. ;-)

For anyone that's waiting for TF from Amazon to arrive... I've been reading their returns page, and it looks like they'll allow you to return an unopened item for up to 30 days past delivery date. I'm not sure, but I think Amazon will even pay for shipping! If not, you could always refuse delivery from USPS or UPS or whatever, and have them return to sender. This all hinges of course, on TF being BOGO tomorrow. This is one time I'm glad I chose free, slow as molasses in January shipping.

you know, if i'm gonna eff off all day at work and read these threads, i might wanna start paying more attention to what i read. i went to my local cc in arizona and they have this going on. BUT i thought it had to be a buy one blu-ray and get either blu-ray or hd dvd of equal or lesser. i spent an hour trying to choose two friggin' movies. had i payed more attention to this thread, i could have just found a bunch of movies and not have to pick my most favorite to purchase.

anyway, i got enemy of the state on blu-ray and got shooter hd dvd, both for $31 and some change. guess where i'm going tomorrow to do this right???

and dang it sure is nice to catch a good deal like this locally and NOT have to wait around for free shipping normally associated with these sweet online deals!

Makes me wonder if this BOGO for HD is a mistake in CC's system. I know OP says the CC manager says it came about too late for print ads, but why have a promo if you don't tell people about it in the store?

Hum, if they are counting HD sales as blu how does that affect the sale numbers. I would hope it would be corrected by skus or something.

Just to give everyone a heads up of what to look for when the CC employee is ringing up your movies......When I bought my 8 movies last night she didn't have to do anything. She didn't have to hit "02" or anything. There's a little white "S" to the left of each item as it rings up. When another movie $29.99 or less is rung up both white "S's" beside each item turns green showing a promo/discount is being applied automatically.
