so does anyone know why every game just about for the 360 makes you select a storage device almost every time you start or load a game

there is a message saying something like "no storage device selected" I can press "A" to select one, but why have this stupid message at all

as far as I know it is not possible to save a game to a different storage device than the one the user is logged into, furthermore why even have this problem do people actually use the Memory card not the hard drive (if you got a 360 with no HD, and you haven't got one yet, that is just plain stupid) to store game saves, why?

all these annoying warning messages like "are you sure you want to overwrite this save"? "are you sure you want to delete this, it can't be undone" really!? who are these messages for, like people dont know this stuff

but really every game just about askes you about storage devices WHY?

That's one thing I do like about the PS3, saving seems be more streamlined and less annoying as you mentioned. However, it's really down to the individual games. NHL 07 was sooo annoying, it popping up and asking you to select a device and such. But NHL 08 just loads all your stuff automatically, no waiting, pop ups or anything. So, it's getting better as time goes on.

Write microsoft. Tell you them you think XP and Vista have stupid logic too. I can tell you from my experiences of working in IT that there should be even more safeguards to protect computer users from themselves. As far as xbox goes, it is annoying, but not as annoying as it would be to wipe out 50 hours of game saves with a single button push.

Since you brought it up....Every time I play the new flatout game it ask to select a satorage device....EVERYTIME!!! dont you think that once I selected HD it would default to the HD?????? All other games seem to only ask once, like the first time and then they know...Flatout is a killer racer BTW

If you have a Mem card installed with an HD.. Of course it's going to ask which one.
If you have Multiple Xboxes and keep your Gamertag on the card... some people like to keep certain game saves on the card so it doesn't matter which 360 they play that certain game on.
It works well when the household has multiple accounts and multiple xboxes.
Makes sense to me.

It depends on the game. Developers should realize its a pain having to pick the storage device over and over again when there is only one storage device present. I see why it would ask if you had an HD and a memory card, but otherwise it should default to the only device detected. Some games do this fine, some don't. I think developers are just not bothering doing a detection routine and are simply going select storage device every time.

Warriors Orochi does the same damn thing. And that's a new release too.

The Orange Box is extremely annoying for this. When I try to load my save it first brings up a message telling me I must first select a storage device and asks me to press A to select one... then it brings up the screen to select the HDD. 2 extra screens and button presses for something that it should default to, everytime!!

Silent Hill:Home Coming asks you when you start the game where yo uwant to save, and then doesn't ask again, but in the options you can change the memory device if you so please, (to store a copy of the saved game on the HD and/or the Memory Card.

I noticed this after I traded in my RROD Elite at BB for a brand new Arcade with the memory built in. Almost all my games now ask me what storage to use all the time. I assume it is because I have a hard drive and the built in memory.

BTW-I am amazed how much cooler/quieter the new Jaspers are and very thankful I got the BB replacement plan.

I too have a new Arcade. I put my profile on the built in card (trying to increase menu speeds.) It doesn't ask about storage nearly as much, I think it depends on how I enter the game too.

Yes, it turns out that some games only ask if there's more than one storage device present. As a result, this problem actually gets worse if one is using an Xbox 360 "Jasper" model, since once one equips it with a hard drive, it will always have two storage devices present.

To be fair, though, one doesn't automatically want to store save games and things to the device where one's profile is located, so it would be a major blunder for games to assume that this was the case.
