I've been looking for a plasma HDTV for literally over 2 years now, and found a kde-50xs955 for an amazing price. I wasn't even looking at Sony but the price was way too good to pass up.

Part of the stipulation for the great price was the TV has some burn in. It is only noticable in games/TV shows with very flat colors like a cartoon or something. I would however like to know if this TV has any ways that I can fix this at all? I do not have the manual for it. I am sure there is no way to reverse burn in damage but maybe the TV has a menu or there is a method to help it not look as bad.

I love the TV but noticed IR is extremely easy to see on this TV. If I have something on the screen for 30 seconds paused, you WILL notice it even a minute later, which makes me hope there MAY be a way to help fix this. Thanks!

If you have the manual, check out page 98. If not, here's what's on that page: There are 2 options. First is what sony calls "orbit" which is a screensaver type of thing. Second is "all white" which is the screen washer. Activating this will give you a 30 minute "washdown" of your screen. It may or may not help,. but it can't hurt!! Good luck!!

Thanks man! I tried orbit but it didn't do anything, white does just what it says, makes the screen all white. I'll give it a try as well as the break in DVD.

I have this tv for the past two years. This is my first plasma and i got it at a very good price from a close friend of mines. You are right the IR is extremely easy to see on this tv. I have over 2000 hours and IR still shows up on this panel. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. At the time of my purchase most 50" plasma were going for 4k and up. IF you could get it at a very cheap price then I think you should go for it. IF not then you should look at either a brand new Panny or Pioneer.

Let's just say I got the TV for less than the price of a PS3 :) And you're right, I was going to go Panny/Pioneer but I couldn't spend the money unfortunately.

Totally worth it, but yes the TV is TERRIBLE with burn in. I can play a game for 2 minutes and see the burn in from the game, though of course that goes away eventually. I am hoping the burn in that seems permanent (from being on the store display) goes away with the burn in DVD or the screen saver, that way I can live with it.

I've noticed on the TV as well it has a very obvious problem where a status bar (say in a fighting game) will have a line all the way down the TV where the status bar is. I don't know if I'm explaining it well, but the status bar will have a line going all the way down the TV. It's faint, but very obvious.

Either way I decided to go plasma because I had a feeling they handle SD much better than LCD and I couldn't be more happy or right. Wii looks incredible, even 4:3 Smash Bros. stretched looks incredible. Looks HORRIBLE on my friend's $1500 LCD. Not flaming, just saying. Hey, he's got no burn in problems :)

Information on this TV here is scarce. Is there any good guides for setting it up for optimal performance?

After about 20 hours or so it seems the burn in is permanent. Oh well, still a great, albeit very old set (I was surprised as hell it had HDMI! It's from 2002!)

Can someone help me out please? When using the burn in DVD on this TV should I change the picture settings? Make it brighter than usual, or darker?

Are there any picture settings recommended for when the TV is done burning in, for optimal picture?

This TV says it's from 2002 on the back, which explains why it's hilariously prone to burn in.
