Hey guys,

Not sure this is the right forum, this is not really a home theater pc. I am using a server for transcoding files. Its at athlonxp 1500 running at 1.5 i think. Also have a gig of ram. I have wired all of my connections and i am still getting some lag.

I wasa wondering if the pc is powerful enough or if its my bottleneck. What do you guys think?

We need more details to help, what do you mean by "transcoding" and give us details on what the software is....

i am using the server to transcode all sorts of video with ffmpeg. Specifically i am using tivo.net software to move video form the server to tivo.

I noticed if i use either tivo.net or tivo desktop my cpu maxes to 95-100%. I also notice that i am getting 230-300 upload with a wired connection.

any ideas?

Yep, it looks like the PC you're using as a server is your bottleneck. What resolution/codecs of video are you trying to transcode?

all sorts. mostly xvid/divx. files are anywhere from 200 to 400,000 in size. i was thinking of getting a dual core. Though i know that will lower my hit on cpu, my question is will that really speed up my transfer time???

Anyone test this?

What about resolution? E.g., 640x480, 720x480, 1920x1080, 320x240, etc.
