I want to start a new thread about Transformers that DOES NOT turn into the lossless vs lossy debate that every other Transformers thread has turned into. That particular debate has been going on for over a month now. Does anyone want to actually discuss what ARE on the discs? I know most haven't gotten their copies yet (mine arrives tomorrow) but I am excited about the reviews and all the extra content in addition to the PQ and AQ. What are your thoughts on the release?

What exactly would you like to discuss? The PQ is outstanding, the AQ is very, very good. The 2nd disc has some nice docs. They aren't as techincal as other docs i've seen but they aren't EPK fluff either. All presented in HD 1.78

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm mostly interested in what other enthusiasts think. I love reading professional reviews, but sometimes get more real info out of other folks like me. I'm mostly interested in the PIP track and the extra features at this point. Are they pretty-much in depth about the creation of the film (especially the robots)? Do they discuss at all the changes that were made from the original cartoon? I'm not usually into web content, but the special trivia track that is described in the reviews sounds fun (even if I only use it once). Things like this make me appreciate what web content can actually provide. I assume the servers won't go live until tomorrow, but if not, have you tried these features out yet? Thanks again!

Same here - I'm so pumped for this release. Honestly, this movie is what got me into HD DVD. I didn't think it was the greatest movie ever made, but I have to admit that I walked out of the theater with a smile on my face and had had a really fun time watching it. I don't get that a lot with movies these days. Anyway, the HD DVD sounds amazing and I can't wait to pop it in tomorrow night. I've been enjoying what others have been saying about the disc but it gets exhausting wading through the constant bickering just to get some tidbit of information.

I already have my finger on the the pause button on my remote, just waiting for that scene....

.....you know what scene I'm talking about!

I'm looking forward to this because the movie theaters in my area are subpar, all bass and bad, distorted picture that is usually crooked. So I'm looking forward to watching this, and hoping to actually see what is going on during the fight scenes and dialogue.

yeah i know which scene, start slow-mo at "who's gonna drive you home?" and resume play a little after "baby come back".

first viewing in the theaters was subpar as well, then decided to watch again at a digital theater, damn was i impressed. i was so spoiled by it i could not watch the sd dvd b/c the audio was just a letdown.

I love the disc so much Ive watched all the extras atleast once, and the movie itself FOUR times this weekend :D The PQ is fantastic, the AQ is fantastic, and ALL the extras are in HD. What else could you want? (besides a new subwoofer. Ive worn mine out :D )

What I want to know is do the extras match that of the SD release feature for feature, and then some? I'd hate it if there was a behind the scenes, or making of that's on the SD release that's not on the HD release. Special features are like Pokemon to me. Gotta catch em' all.

If I want lossless. Ill turn up the volume a notch on my surround sound.
Simple.

I don't care if this movie on 2.0 Channel HD DVD....Im getting it!

Cant wait to see how the pic is going to look on my tv.

From all the professional reviews that I've read, yes, the HD DVD extras include all those on the SD release and then some extra HD exclusive ones (e.g. the Heads Up Display picture in picture, the web enabled content).

One interesting thing about watching the movie again at home on HD-DVD is that the long final battle in the city is much easier to follow on my 42" screen than in the theater. There is less eye strain/fatigue, so the action doesn't become one big blur.

Bay's commentary track also made me like him a lot more. He is not the arrogant poseur jerk that he's been made out to be.

As for the extras: Yes, all the SD extras are included, as well as HD exclusive ones. It's really hard to find a way to complain about this set, really. Paramount really outdid themselves. This is, in my opinion, the new reference for HDM as far as PQ/AQ and extras in one package.

Yes I got that feeling too. Also, I thought it was pretty funny when they threw all the bull horns at him & he took it in stride. The little subtle nods to the G1 fans were cool as well.

The extended cut had like 2 minutes of extra footage (none of which includes the robots). Was it really that much better?? It's not on the HD DVD by the way.

I'm in the exact same boat. The movie was awesome when I saw it in theaters a few months back but the outter edges of the picture and a good quarter of the picture on the left hand side were slightly blurry and out of focus. So I am dying to have this on HDDVD tomorrow. I have rebuilt my front soundstage (3 new identical DIY floorstanding speakers instead of the three DIY bookshelves that were there, I've been busy all weekend).

I'm really looking forward to some of the special features, the HUD, commentary, and featurettes all sound great as well. Can't wait.

It was a lot more then 2 minutes, and I'm pretty sure that some of it did include robots. A lot of it was a sentence here and there, but there was definitely some fighting that I didnt' see before, and I had seen it twice in theaters when it was out before.

If this isn't an extended cut I guess I'll wait for them to double dip cause its going to happen.

Not to debate you since I haven't seen the extended cut, but when it was released all the extra footage was plastered across the internet and it only amounted to 2 extra minutes of runtime and it was all dialog (mostly Section 7 stuff). Can you describe more of what you saw - I'm very curious. I'll look for those threads that talk about the extended cut.

couple things I found worth mentioning in the below article similar to others .
http://www.superheroflix.com/news/38/23538.php

The disc contains a very intense, funny, and informative commentary by Michael Bay, the director of the film. The scene we watched had Shai LaBeouf being chased by real trained police dogs. Bay goes into this exciting story about how the dogs got away from their trainer, and actually almost killed LaBeouf. His way with words boosts the intensity of this scene as it is being shown on screen. There's a function that allows a little box to appear in the far left corner, and it shows Shia doing his own stunts. Falling and hurting himself. Jumping on these two barrels to keep from getting mauled to death. The look of fear on Shia's face is authentic, were are told, "This was the first night of shooting, and we almost lost our lead. He almost died that night. No joke. We knew something bad was up when the dog trainer said, "Uh-oh". Luckily for us, Shia is a fast runner."

They are also working with a lot of Wed-based special features that will download themselves once you are logged into the Transformers database. When this disc streets on Tuesday, you will be able to download a new special feature every day for the next six days. There are also five Easter eggs hidden on the disc. One of them is an HD trailer for John Favreau's Iron Man. Another is an incredibly funny blooper featuring Michael Bay. The representatives on hand refused to clue us in as to where these Easter eggs could be found.

I have a question as to what's on the discs.

normally paramount pust subtitles not only on the movie but on EVERYTHING there is on the disc (extras, commentaries, etc) is this the case with this?

Does the H.U.D has english subs for the parts of audio and spanish language on the text things? (or french).

That's one good thing to know.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Picked up the Transformers HD DVD set last night at Wal-mart (curses for not contributing to weekly sales numbers)... had to wait for the lady to bring the box from the back at midnight.

AMAZING! Absolutely frigg'n amazing. Soundtrack is so "alive" and the special features are awesome. The HUD that you can download is such a cool feature (Imeldhil, I haven't checked if it supports other languages). Every review I've read had me salivating to own and watch! I just wanted to say that it was fully justified in my opinion.

Regarding the web-enabled stuff:
Only 2 available right now. 3 more coming soon.
The ones enabled are:

Intelligence Mode. On screen widgets to track action of the film, GPS Tracker, Robot Status Alerts, Data Panel. (Watching this right now, WOW the whole left side of the screen shows all the Transformers and their stats, on top is the GPS Tracker and on the Bottom is the Movie Trivia. The movie trivia is different than the on disc Transformers HUD). I actually like this a lot better than the features on Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift or Miami Vice or King Kong where the "U-Control" features a little circle on the corner of the screen and if a gps or pip or stat is available it glows and you have to use the remote to select it.

Sector 7 Transmission 1
First secret transmission of six video files. more will be added soon. (This video is from the sector7 website when they were promoting the movie. This particular video that's available now is of the Parking Garage CCTV film showing a VW Bug parking then transforming into a robot and walking away. An homage to Bumblebee)

Other web enabled features not yet available:
Transformers Profiler. In-movie guide for learning more about the production including cast, crew, locations, etc.

Menubots. Transform the in-movie menubar to a transformer. Select from multiple looks including, bumblebee, optimus prime, and megatron.

My Clips.
Mark your favorite clips from the movie and re-order them into a custom playlist. then you can share them with other hd-dvd internet connected users. (just like 300.. aka Make Your Own Movie)

I have a quick O/T question about the online content. Is it feasable to see this content as disc based in the future with maybe a special eddition? It would be a shame to lose content that was made for this title or other titles when the server gets shut down. I am not expecting to see the web based content for this title in 10 years. In my opinion It really wouldnt be cost effective.

Once it's downloaded, it's in your player and stays there until you delete it.

Well, I finally got to enjoy my disc last night and I have to say it was quite worth the wait. As expected the audio and video were top-notch, but I also really enjoyed all the extras. The web content worked without any problems and I really like the GPS/Tech feature. I had to watch the movie four times (film itself, the HUD pip commentary, Michael Bay commentary, and have watched the first 10 minutes with the GPS Tech feature. Not that I'm complaining, just tired from being up all night :) Tonight I will start on disc 2. A great set ...

I unfortunately won't have time to watch it until this weekend, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the box (maybe because you're all enjoying the movie :)). It has to be the least impressive of the 80 or so I have. Take off the cheezy slipcover and there's absolutely zero text on the keepcase. Just a pure white background with a half a robotic face on it. Open the keepcase and there's a promotional pamphlet hiding the movie.

Got it from Netflix today, watching on a Optoma HD70 with a 92" DIY Grey Screen.
There is def some motion blur, maybe my D2 being it cant project 1080p 24fps causes pan shots to see the blur.........i'm sure known problem with a D2.

Wish there was a THX optimizer on the HD disc, really HD-DVD features are not that overwhelming than reg DVD, first thing my son says while coming in is....doesnt look any better than the dvd, sure it is better detail but a significant difference.

Paramount , this is the movie of the year. I love the tranformations in hi def on my hd dvd player. Sensational movie and special effects, the last scene in downtown los angeles, is eye candy to show off our hd dvd player.

So weird my business is 10 blocks from the statue of Bumble bee at the best buy on Santa Monica and La Brea in West Hollywood. I feel like this movie is all around me.

I convinced two of my customers ( in dry cleaning business for movie industry) to buy hd dvd players partly to watch this movie. This is going to sell hd dvd players. Forget 300, this is "3 million".

Thanks Paramount for going hi def. I am going to buy a second copy just to support you for ditching blue ray, to show my support. I will keep it unwrapped to thank you.

I finally got to watch HD-DVD Transformers last night. Amazing picture and sound...

People need to put things into context when talking about Transformers...It was not meant to be Hamlet...its a fun and entertaining movie to watch...corny? yep...but fun. So what if they didn't give us meaningful insight into why Megatron is so disturbed ...maybe he was abused as a transistor...

I do have a question...i sware when I saw the movie in the theaters...at the end when Prime gives his little speech..he warned all the "Decepticons" that might be hiding in space...but on the HD-DVD he said "Autobots" instead of "Decepticons"?

Maybe im imagining things...

Watched some of the stuff on Disc #2. One thing is for sure...looks like everyone had fun making the movie...and Bay really is as full of himself as everyone says.

Looks like they're kissing and making up, I read somewhere that the whole deal with Spielberg and Paramount was going south because Paramount was not giving Dreamworks enough credit for their sucesses.

Now LOOK at the presentation of this disc, it opens up with the Dreamworks logo, no "Paramount Hi-Def" intro, like the rest of their releases, I wonder if this means anything at all, this being their biggest release of the year, if I was Paramount, I would have want to put my name on it like the rest of them, yet, it's was Dreamworks, all the way, I wonder if this means anything.

I had one glitch with the web based HUD--the robot status bar and gps display disappeared at one point in the film and didn't come back. I went back and deleted then reloaded the feature and all was well. Other than that the only oddity was that sometimes the pop-up text ended in the middle of a sentence, as if there was a second pop-up coming to complete the sentence, but the second pop up never came.

It's for the "make your own movie" feature.
Just like in 300 you can cut and arrange the movie anyway you like, then upload it to their servers and you can download other people's cuts and view them.
Although in 300, it was ready out of the box, just needed to make account. Didn't have to download anything to make the feature work.

SKORPONOK, Decepticon INFO.

If you just press the LEFT or RIGHT Arrow keys, you'll get other Menu options (most 'coming soon') and the only one that's working right now is the "S7 icons which has short video funny clips. Three "S7" icons have clips right now, with 3 "S7" more video icons to come.

Each "S7" ICON has one short video clip that you can download & delete after you watched them (which I did).

1st short video is a surveillance video clip in a garage (cool)
2nd short video viewing a street from an alley (funny)
3rd short video a family having a birthday party (could be unsettling?)

Since "Sector 7 (S7)" deals with the government alien cover-up, these clips of course shows something or object Transforming - I won't tell you what they are, but the 1st one is an homage to one of the G1 Transformers!!!

There will be SIX Total "S7" ICONS, I guess by tomorrow morning, the Fourth "S7" ICON will show-up and I'll check that out during breakfast!!! ;-)

These images represents about 1/3 of what I took (Movie Scenes, H.U.D. - Text & PiP scenes w/a couple 30 -45 sec video clips, WEB scenes) , to see them all (including these images), go HERE!!! (http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/561074155YUsIfG)

The Intelligence Mode rocked! Thanks for putting pictures up, there are a lot of comedic bits which pop up at appropriate time as back ground info.

Your welcome! I agree 100%!!! Talk about Value Added Entertainment for $25!!! ;)

I've only gone thru 1/3 of the WEB ENABLED Intelligenence Mode w/GPS tracking and about the same 1/3 w/H.U.D. (Text & PiP video, one w/Steven Spielberg talking about Shia LaBeouf), so when I have time, I'll watch those 2 NEXT GEN Features later.

I did take my SD DVD movie to work (left the Optimus Prime Transforming DVD Case @ home :)) to finish listening to Michael Bay commentary @ lunch and that was excellent. He is very engaging, forthright and entertaining.

I know I'm late to the party, but just got around to checking this stuff out tonight.

Transformers HD DVD is what next gen is meant to be. I have no doubt that any of my friends and family would be overly impressed when I demo this stuff to them. I myself am very impressed (and after the 300 disc, I don't impress easily).

The Intelligence Mode rocks. Why is this stuff (like the screenshots posted earlier) not advertised like crazy? I just don't understand why they aren't taking this stuff and throwing it into every commercial on TV and ads in magazines. BD can't even hope to do this kindof stuff (yeah yeah...I know it's coming eventually...probably....maybe, but they're way late to the party already).

I'd also like to hear Mr. Bay's thoughts now regarding how the disc came out and after that little hissy fit he threw when he found out it was going to be on HD DVD exclusively.
