I was just looking at the sales from Amazon.com through hidefdigest.com: http://charts.highdefdigest.com/rank.aspx Man we are dominating those charts for HDM. Pirates DMC is #7 & Pirates CTBP is #8 while Transformers is #5. We are closing in on Transformers. I really doubt that Transformers will get HD-DVD higher than 50% in the Nielsen's for next friday. Way to go Blu-Ray owners for doing your part

Probably due to the BOGO deals as of late at many retailers. I know my BD collection is slowly creeping up to my HD collection because of these deals. If there were no deals going on, I wouldn't be buying BD titles right now since there really aren't any that are must buys. That's diff for HD though with Transformers, that will be my most anticipated title for HDM.

Aren't most of these stores that are offering this BOGO not included in the Neilsen sales numbers?

um, no. pretty much all the major B&M retailers are offering it as well as amazon. they are all included in the Neilsen numbers as far as i know. the promotion seems to be coming from the studios, not the individual stores.

What an embarrassment for HD DVD.

They are just getting squashed. 1 title in the whole top 10.

They look like a 1 tune show...

And in B+M stores, it is likely far worse.

Yes they are, BBY, CC, Fry's & Amazon are all counted in the Nielsen's and thats why Blu-Ray is dominating right now.

Man, I've read this for the past year, how things aren't looking good for HD. When is it actually going to be true?

If "looking bad" for HD DVD is having a sub $200 player at wallmart, exclusive transformers, and players on amazon outselling blu 4:1 all in one week, ummm, I hope things for blu start looking bad as well.

In all fairness, when talking about 'domination' please see whether or not the winning side has some killer deals like the BOGO sales. I mean $10 BDs, if I hadn't ordered 6 HD DVDs I would have gotten a handful of BDs even without a player. I don't own a PS3 yet (my only BD player of choice) so I saw no need to purchase them even at the super low prices. You've got to ask yourself, this is obviously working but how good does it do the BDA? After all this is business and selling films for 1/2 off means less profit. Who's taking the hit if it isn't just the studio?

The sales are really good - with the BOGO.

It is sad to think people are assuming that isn't the reason...

Cheap BDs. Yay!
Transformers. Yay!

The domination started at the end of last year and hasn't let up yet. Keep up the good work BDA members. The more deals the better :)

I'll be off to fry's for some more BOGO deals at lunch ;)

A $200 dollar player means nothing when it's crap. Face it, the hardware CE's...all 3-4 of them that are in HD-DVD's camp are crap with the exception of Onkyo. Past formats didn't make it who had HD-DVD's level of CE support are Laserdisk, DVHS, Mini-disk, and UMD.

Transformers is HD-DVD's one blockbuster for the holiday season, and it's not even going to be a blip on the sales radar from the looks of things.

Agreed, I bought 6 BDs from Amazon today because of the BOGO deal. I wasn't really planning on purchasing any BDs this week and I wouldn't normally buy these titles but the BOGO deal was just too good to pass up. If HD had the same deal, I probably would have bought 6 HDs.

Well Fry's did have a sale for HD DVD similar to BD's crazy fire sale (although not as good). 4 of the 6 I ordered from them were on sale for $13.50 and since I was going to get them anyways, I saw no other reason why to hold off.

These competitive sales are good for the consumer, I just hope both formats don't over do it to the point that they kill each other with lack of profits.

I linked my proBD friends to the sale and sadly none of them bought any. Blasphemy I tell you! I would have scored EASILY 7 titles at that price!

So you cope with not being able to buy Transformers by buying a bunch of cheap movies you would normally not buy.

Isn't that kind of like when your hot girlfriend leaves you and you go out and sleep with ugly chicks to ease the pain?

With all this talk of we, one would think you guys are employed with a BDA company, get the discs for free or are paid to get them. You are simply being used as pawns by the powers to be, especially if you are getting movies you would normally not buy or watch anyway. Geez men, some of you really need to get a life.

Why do you assume that I am not getting transformer? It looks like it is shipping today and should be here Wednesday.

I completely agree with you. My experience has been far more negative with HD-DVD and numerous glitches/freezing/lockups than it has been with Blu-ray.

**For the record I own 4 HD-DVD players (A1, A2, A20 and Xbox), 2 Blu-ray players (BDP-S1 and PS3) I'm format neutral and can't wait to get my copy of Transformers!

May be he means he would not normally buy at their regular prices but at 1/2 price, then he'll buy.

BTW:
When did he mention not being able to buy Transformers ?

You can't be serious, right?
Amazon is selling discs for as low as $10 shipped. Of course the numbers would be skewed. This is a GREAT fire sale, Ive already bought 4 titles!

Even though I quoted him, I didn't really mean for my post to necessarily be directed at him, more so at the whole theme of this BOGO sale. I will say that it is a genius marketing move, but there is no doubt that it is to defend themselves against Transformers.

Wow. When people start referring to their support for a format as "we this, and we that", I believe they're going a little to far with their convictions. As for thebland's typical hit and run post, I like how you call the sales for HD-DVD an embarassement, yet you fail to mention the embarassemt of the PS3's sales. I guess some people will continue to not realize that this format blip (not war) is still in the equivalent phase of two fleas in a pissing match over who gets the dog.

p.s. Yes bland, I just used an analogy. You may now feel free to speak to me in a condescending tone about how inferior my logic is because, in your opinion, analogies are useless.

Thanks, I haven't really ever looked at Fry's. They may not be having the deal you were talking about, but they have some Paramount titles at a good discount. They had Top Gun for $13.50. I will have to check it out!
