View Full Version : Roger's Video Canada goes High-Def
invadergir 10-15-07, 12:50 PM I was at my local Roger's Video here in Burlington, Ont (Walker/New) and noticed last night that they had a very small but present Blu-ray/HD-DVD for sale section. I went to the counter and asked about rentals and the clerk said that they would roll out the High-Def rentals this week or next. Nothing was really priced $30 or less (minus Lionsgate blu-ray films) and they even have the High Def discs mentioned in the monthly Roger's Video Magazine you can get at the front of the store. So it looks like we Canadians have another place to rent our movies :)
DarthPuppy 10-15-07, 12:52 PM Ugh, Blockbuster has always been better than Rogers. No late fees at Blockbuster, longer rent times, and cheaper prices.
Besides, I don't feel like renting at Rogers, so Ted Rogers can pay Vernon Wells 9 million dollars a year to hit .245. and AJ Burnett 6 million a year to sit out half a season every year. :(
Htdude14 10-15-07, 01:37 PM Greater acceptence of HDM can only be good news!
I wonder what the owners of Blockbuster waste their money on...
Good news, and since BBV in Canada is launching HDM in all their stores by end of November, no more 'test' stores, we'll have even more choice for rentals.

I didn't even know they were doing that. Cool news on that and i guess it makes sense. All my local stores that weren't part of the initial test stores have recently been selling the latest High Def releases. (Knocked Up, F4:ROTSS) They only get a few but are sold on the new release feature rack when you enter the store with their dvd counter part
Now i might be able to grab some used high def disc from them in time
HPforMe 10-15-07, 05:15 PM Good news indeed. I guess better late than never.

Seriously? Where is this news come from?

I work at Blockbuster in Victoria, BC and can confirm that every store is going to have a high def section in the next couple months. We've been getting the rare HD title for sale (Fantastic 4 RoSS, Transformers) and my manager tells me we'll be getting HDM to rent soon too.
...Good for me, since I'm the only employee at the store who has an HD DVD and a Blu-Ray player. Whoo!
ocd_guy 10-15-07, 07:05 PM I have been renting HD DVDs via Rogers.ca (powered by zip.ca) for close to five months now, but it's nice to know that their B&M locations will begin renting HD DVDs too!

Two of the stores I visited this weekend stated they'll be getting HD/BD movies for rent. They are also already selling the big releases, ie: Transformers, even if they aren't carrying HD/BD discs yet.

That's very good news indeed. There is one test store here in Winnipeg about 15 minutes away. The other BB store is only 5 minutes. Goody, goody!
