This might be a dumb question, and please feel free to flame me if this has been asked a dozen times, looked around and didnt see any posts.

I thought when you pre order the HD dvd from Amazon, it was delivered on the release date? In the recent past I have pre ordered from them, and it was up to a week later before I recieved my movies. Am I doing something incorrect in my ordering? I never sellect the free shipping, instead opting for the standard shipping.

Thanks for any info,

Jeff

Generally speaking, you would have to select 1 day shipping to get the movie on the street date.
Generally speaking, they usually ship the movie the Sunday before its Tuesday release, at least on Amazon Prime. I have heard those who select standard or super saver shipping are shipped later, once the 1 and 2 day shipping order are fulfilled.

I am an Amazon Prime member. They ship my movies on Monday, second day air and they arrive on Wednesday. When I pay extra and select overnight shipping, they wait and do not ship it until Tuesday and it still arrives on Wednesday. I have never had a film arrive on the release date and I have ordered hundreds of them. I have argued with them about this and it has been pointless. They have not and will not ship me a new release overnighted on a Monday to arrive on Tuesday. In fact, when I pay extra for overnight shipment, they still just send it regular ground because it gets here the next day anyway.

Transformers is scheduled for delivery on Thursday.

Thanks for the replies, I did not know about the Prime membership, but definitly going to look into it, as I have gotten tired of the prices at the local BB for HD titles.

What he said! I haven't had a next day or second day air package come on the release date in quite a while. My Transformers is scheduled for a Wednesday delivery. They do love to use ground when you pay for next day Prime which pees me off. Oh well.

Very interesting. I just went to Amazon to change my pre-order from standard to two day shipping and it won't allow me to make the change. It says that they are preparing this item for shipping and the order cannot be canceled or changed. The most interesting part is that I changed it from Free Super Saver to Standard delivery this morning.

Just had the same thing happen for an order I placed this morning, signed up for prime, and went to change that order, and it was too late. But I was able to change all my pre orders for the future, so its alright.

I'm having a similar issue (although it may be my fault for waiting so long). I ordered Transformers on Friday morning thinking it'll ship that day, Sat or today. So far, nothing. If there is no action by tommorrow, I'm just going to cancel and pick it up at Best Buy which comes with a lithograph. it'll only be $4 more. It'll be worth it...

It took me three e-mail complaints before they would give me a refund when that happened. I was irate.

Amazon's service can sometimes be hit or miss. I am really annoyed right now with them and your info. This was one of the reasons I paid for Prime, I thought I would be getting my HD DVD and video game orders to arrive on release date or at least the following day. My TF order still has not shipped, it is due for Thurs arrival. $27.95 versus $29.99 at BB isn't much savings. I never bothered with them for new releases, now I see why most don't. Outside of new releases, I don't order enough from Amazon to justify the $79. I don't know now, just really annoyed.

Same here. I thanked them for saving me from spending the $4 on future releases and losing the sales on blockbusters that I have to have on the first day, like Transformers. Idiots.

I am a member of prime and paid for the one day shipping. It says it shipped out today but my estimated arrival date is the 17th. It annoys me that orders I placed yesterday are shipping the regular two day speed given to prime members yet are arriving the same day as an item i picked for one day? that makes no sense to me at all.

Theres a chance it could come tomorrow but if it doesn't i'll be calling amazon

Hi All,

Just a quick question - hopefully someone knows.

I'm a Prime member now and have pre-ordered movies that won't ship until December. The order was placed with 2nd day shipping and "ship as available" options. No charge for shipping since I'm Prime.

But my Prime membership runs out in about a month. If I don't renew and aren't Prime when the pre-ordered movies actually shipped, am I still good (i.e. no charge for 2nd day shipping and shipping as movies are available?)

Just want to make sure I won't get screwed later. . .

Thanks!

You're good. Last year when I had the three month trial, I actually ordered video games, DVDs and more all with Prime shipping. I never renewed Prime and all of my orders went out with Prime. The key is do NOT change the order, try to be certain with shipping address, payment method and preferably order things seperately or mark as they are available. I don't know what happened, but I had to change CC details on a few orders and they all reverted to standard shipping. So I don't suggest you touch the orders.

I had a good run with prime during that trial, I pre-ordered maybe 9 months worth of DVDs in advance ;)

Generally speaking, they usually ship the movie the Sunday before its Tuesday release, at least on Amazon Prime.

I pre-order lots of DVDs and HD-DVDs from Amazon -- both with and without Prime membership -- and they almost never ship on Saturday or Sunday. Maybe 1 disc out of the last 100. The rest are shipped on Monday, Tuesday, or sometimes even on Wednesday or Thursday -- although I don't recall seeing a Wednesday/Thursday shipment (other than Twilight Zone HD-DVD, which was delayed) since getting my Prime membership.

Check the tracking number...usually when Amazon gives you a late date it means they shipped it via FedEx...go to either UPS or FedEX depending on who they used and track it. You will know for sure then. Don't hold your breath for your money back..theirs a lil disclaimer in the small print. :(

I also have Amazon Prime and they usually ship new releases out on Monday and I get it Wednesday. For TF I opted to pay the $3.99 so I can get this on street date. I was really stressing when I read your post earlier today about them holding it until Tuesday when you pay for overnight. Fortunately, I got my e-mail confirmation when I got home and it should be here tomorrow. I hope it works out for others as well. FWIW, earlier today my order status said it was scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday.

Same boat here. I've ordered a crap-load of HD DVDs since becoming an Amazon Prime member. In EVERY case, when I went with the free 2-day shipping, the discs shipped on Monday and arrived on Wednesday. They all shipped via UPS 2-day (Blue label). I was fine with that. But for Transformers, I bumped the shipping up to 1-day. And, sure enough, Amazon shipped it today (Monday). But they sent it via GROUND and it is estimated to be delivered on Wednesday, not tomorrow. WHAT THE HELL DID I PAY AN EXTRA $3.99 FOR?!?

I ALREADY called Amazon. They are "very sorry". The rep said that they were overwhelmed with Transformers orders and that the shipping priority some how fell through the cracks. They offered to refund the $3.99 but that still doesn't get me the disc on release date. Instead, I insisted that they send me a free return label and that they credit me in FULL for the package. That's exactly what they've already done. I'll return it unopened. No need to open it because I'll pick it up locally tomorrow.

That's the LAST time I'll use 1-day ordering for a new release. And I doubt I'll renew my Amazon Prime membership either. Amazon simply plays too many games with their shipping.

I feel your pain and frustration. I upgraded to overnight a couple of times and was really pissed when I saw they shipped it Ground and the scheduled delivery date was not the next day. A couple of times I called and "let them have it". However, I had to eat some crow each time because--for me--they haven't been late yet despite shipping Ground. I think they do it to save money but the tracking info from UPS Ground isn't accurate and always says it's going to be delivered later than it really is.

Of course, I can't guarantee you'll get it by tomorrow, but from my experience if they ship it out today and you paid for overnight you'll get it the next day even though it went out Ground.

Well, I'll be very surprised if that turns out to be the case. None of my 2-day orders were sent ground. They were all sent 2-day Blu label and they all took 2 days. The shipping facility is in another state and I've NEVER had a UPS ground package arrive to me from another state in just one day. Within the same state (Southern California to Southern California), yes. But never from outside the state or even from Northern California.

Hell, even though Amazon shows it as shipped, the UPS tracking shows all they've received is the biling info for a GROUND package. And they didn't get THAT until 9:30pm eastern time. It will be a miracle if it shows up tomorrow.

I ordered from Amazon with a Prime membership and paid $3.99 for one-day shipping.

I received an email on Monday stating that the package ship with a UPS tracking number. The Amazon web site says arrival date of 16 or 17 October. What drives me crazy is when your order is in processing from pre-order to shipping and (in my case) it disappears from your account for a period of time.

Must... be.. patient... do not order 2nd copy... it is on its way....

It would be great to sort all the pre-ordered movies by arrival date instead of order date so it would be easier to know when to brace yourself for the $$$ hit.

I used to go to Best Buy on Tuesday to get new releases, then I sent back Netflix on Fridays to get new releases on Tuesday, now I pre-order on Amazon Prime to get them by Thursday.

I sometimes get them in a couple days and sometimes not. Even with "super saver shipping". I checked my order status and it said due to arrive Oct 28 to something or other. So I canceled my order. Got some Reward Zone certificates today. So to BB for me.

The last time this issue was raised, I defended Amazon (and overall I still love their service), but I must now agree that orders with super saver status seem to be taking longer and longer to arrive.

Just checked my tracking numbers. A 2-day package that I ordered on Thursday and was shipped on Friday (Serenity) has already been delivered to my home (wife is home to receive it). My Transformers tracking number still shows that it is awaiting pickup by the shipper (Billing Information Received). In other words, it appears it hasn't moved AT ALL since being "shipped" late yesterday. And, since UPS has already delivered today, it's pretty unlikely that it will arrive today. At this point, I'm doubting that it will even arrive tomorrow.

Not to worry... I saw the writing on the wall and picked up Transformers locally this morning. It's sitting at home, waiting for me to unwrap and view! :) The Amazon package will be going back when it finally arrives. I've been promised a full refund and Amazon is paying the shipping to return it.

I had two other pre-orders in the queue where I used 1-day shipping. I have cancelled those orders and placed them again with just the free 2-day (Amazon Prime) shipping. For me, it looks like 2-day gets it to me just as fast anyway.

If Amazon wants the $3.99 from me, they are going to have to do a LOT better than they've done with Transformers.

I preordered Transformers on the day the preorder became available. Amazon prime 2day for me, shipped yesterday, arrived today. Exact same situation with 300 when that came out. I guess I'll never bother with next day since, from the looks of it, they don't really do anything differently for next day shipping even though you pay for it. Bah.

Preordered TF HD-DVD on 9/8/07 and paid for Next Day Air. Amazon emailed me on Monday, 10/15 notifying me that it had been shipped. Checked my UPS tracking # and it was showing shipment as 2 Day Air, estimated arrival on 10/17. I was like "WTF?".

On release day, Tuesday 10/16, it didn't arrive so I decided to pick it up locally @ BB (which by the way still had like 25 copies at 6pm on Tuesday evening). Called Amazon, told them I was returning it b/c I had picked it up locally due to their shipping screw up. They said "No problem, refuse delivery and we'll give you a refund". I was like "OK".

Saver used to arrive in 4-7 days, and standard in 3.
Not since last year, tho, and the last 3 of my recent orders were paid Standard-Shipping.
Each took over a week, last "Savers" were about the same.
WTF.. coulda' saved the $$$.
Still waiting for my Transformers.

Like to know how all these people (claim) to get their pre-orders on release day, or the day after.
