As the title suggests, just wondering of there are any reviews up yet for this title. I'm headed out to make a purchase or two tomorrow and was thinking about picking this title up just because of the High Def features that sound somewhat interesting. However, just kind of wanted a heads up on this movie before I take the plunge. So, any early reviews?

I read one normal dvd review and it said the movie was terrible, but its got to be cool since you can send people to their death. I realy hate movies that kill off all the hot girls, hopefully with this one I can have some control over it.:D

Is it safe to assume that the main audio track is 640 kbps DD+?

"Be Warned, Stay Away." This is one dumb movie and the HD transfer looks like a regular DVD. I rented from Netflix and ended up FFWD through many parts.

The actual review said the PQ was outstanding (probably digital filmed since straight to video) . I'm sure the movie itself is your standard schlock horror crap (which means I LIKE)

I disagree about the PQ. And I'm surprised the same reviewer that pitched a fit over the Halloween Bluray PQ would give this 4 Stars.

Here's what I said in another thread:

Anyone else notice all the white specks popping up towards the end of the movie? It started to get distracting. For a brand new movie there shouldn't be that much dirt and specks on the film.

So far, the only reviews I've seen mention the speckling is DVD Talk and IGN. Here's what they said:

One odd thing is that Return to House on Haunted Hill looks as if it was shot on HD video and processed to give it more of a film-like appearance, but at the same time, there are quite a few tiny white specks that pepper the image. I dunno if that means it actually was shot on film and Warner just opted not to do their usual digital scrubbing this time around.

It's often pretty easy (or perhaps, in a sense, difficult) to accurately judge HD presentation - largely because any competent transfer generally looks somewhere in the ballpark of great. This film, however, is shockingly unattractive - bland coloring, imperfect black levels, dust and specks across the image and a shallow clarity of detail. It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look much better than its standard-def counter part.

Does anyone who's seen it want to discuss the seamless branching, or lack of it? Could you mention which player you're using for it?

I noticed the white specks the entire movie, my wife didn't. The entire movie had a very grainy, noisy appearance, but was also very sharp. PQ was good, my only complaint was some ringing, but I'm very sensitive to edge halos which I find to be in abundance even in high def releases. I don't think the branching hurt or helped, the movie was crap either way. I wouldn't sit through it again to see what I missed. The gore was decent, and like any shlock B movie should, had it's fair share of bewbies. I didn't try it on my A1(s), only my A2, and the branching points have maybe 5-6 seconds of load time once you choose.

Watched it tonight.

The movie was actually better than I expected. (which isn't saying a whole lot, but worthy of watching). Not very suspenseful, more gore than suspense.

PQ = 4/5
AQ = meh

The choose an outcome thing is pretty nifty and it works without any real lag. I ran through the movie and chose a few different endings to see how things worked out. I saw a couple different endings.
I should also point out that the movie has plenty of gratuitous nudity. :)

A worthy purchase if you can get a fair price on it.

Picked this up free with the Best Buy 360 deal. Its not something I would have otherwise got, but I like having it just as an example of what features HD is capable of.

Terrible movie. I mean, really, a terrible movie.

I rented it only to see the branching, which worked very smoothly. And a good thing, too, because I'm sure that all right-thinking AVS Forum members will be wanting to branch away from the extended lesbian sex scene.

Have to agree movie is lacking. But it did hold my attention for it's short running time. I'll file it away and probably never watch it again.
