Yes it will work as far as I know.. all you need to make sure is to buy an adapter between 110v and 220v. That's it..
Like said a voltage converter and you'll only be able to play region 1 NTSC DVDs. So no PAL DVDs. Which woiuld be the biggest isssue. I think the standard out put are NTSC only as well..

are you sure? because here in germany the new XA2 cost 700€ (thats 990 US $)
and in the us the Toshiba HD-XA2 539.99 US $ that would be just 380 € lets count 50€ shipping that would be 430€ much cheaper than our european price + i get 5 free HD DVDs correct? or does this offer only works for USA ?

DVDs doesnt matter, i got a DVD player for this, i only want a HD DVD player for HD DVD movies, since they ALL are region free, i wont have any problem with that.
mrowley 10-15-07, 10:26 PM You won't get the free HD-DVDs unless you have a US address for them to be mailed to.
But you can certainly use the Toshiba HD-XA2 in Germany without any problem provided you have the right power supply trandformer.

You're referring to sd dvd's right? I don't think pal/ntsc applies to hd-dvd.
coolhand 10-15-07, 10:44 PM I have always had a problem with the voltage exchange. I suspect it might get fried.

What he is saying is that if you use S-Video or the yellow SD setups then it will be outputted at NTSC even if watching a HD movie.

who does that? Sorta defeats the purpose of HD

Just read the back of dvd player.. It'll say 110v and some electronics will also say 110v along with 220v.. Laptops are one of those in which case all you need is a cheap 3 dollar adapter..

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. If you ask Some people 1080p Downconverted to 480 compared to a 480 is a bigger difference then 1080P source compared to 480 upconverted.
Snickering Hound 10-15-07, 11:28 PM You won't be able to play European DVD's thanks to region coding, but HD DVD's will be ok.

I guess but for me if you only have a 480p display an hd-dvd player is a waste
Yes, I ment S-video and commposite (yellow). Outs will be 480i NTSC only. I wouldn't use them but some may if they have a amplifer with display or have it sent to a second room in the house prehapps..
So for HD its mostly pointless but their are some who may use them. I could see Upgrading the HD-DVD player and putting the old one in a spare room with SDTV only.
Usual Suspect 10-16-07, 09:19 AM The very cheap converters available at most electronic stores will not do, because they are usually only good for appliances up to 50 watts. DVD players are well above that. My HD-A1 has a label which says 90 watts, so I had to buy a modell which is good for up to 100 watts.
However, even such a converter will cost you only about 40 bucks, add to this the adaptor for the power cord which will also cost you only a few bucks and you will still save a lot of money.
You could then spend the money you saved on HD-DVD discs, but that's only a weird idea :D

Don't forget to also add on the customs duty as the Zollamt will want their 20%..............
I may be mistaken but I believe there are limitations to international shipping of electronics. Whether this means a higher price or not allowed altoghther I would have to look into it further.
If you need help with the shipping though, send me a PM
I live in Paris and have a US HD-XA2 since last December; I also still own an HD-A1.
Both work great with mu European hardware; the only points to be noted are:
1. You have to use an adapter to plug them in and you cannot use cheap ones which only allow you 50W or less, because both players do need 60W. If you use a cheap adapter, it will fry (I've tried it, several times!).
2. You cannot play Zone 2 (European) DVDs, but I don't care about that because I have practically none (I hate Pal speed up).
Obviously, the European HD DVDs play fine.
Let me add I am EXTREMELY happy with my HD-XA2.
