The good news for my audio rig is that a year and a half ago I found the perfect speakers for me. The bad news is that said speaker company doesn't make an on-wall surround, which is about the only type of speaker that I can accomodate in my room. I picked up a few Orbs earlier this year, and they've actually done a decent job, but I'm at the point now where I either want to do multi-channel the right way (i.e. with quality all around and as cohesive as possible), or just focus on a really great 2-channel system.

I've always liked Vandersteens, and I noticed that they make an on-wall that MIGHT be a decent match for my mains (DeVore Super 8s)...at least as far as surrounds go. I will ultimately try them out for myself, of course, but I was wondering if anyone was currently using them, whether with matched mains or otherwise. I have read several reviews that refer to them as very transparent with the "ability to disappear".

I'd love to hear some feedback from anyone who has experience with them.

I have heard the Vandies, but not with a different brand for fronts. However, in my experience it is more important to timbre match the center and fronts than it is to match the rears. Sure, it will probably help, but if you want to try the VSM-1's I don't foresee a major issue. Maybe it will just sound amazing...only one way to find out. :D

Vandersteen makes amazing speakers, but I wish they were a little more dynamic (able to be pushed to reference levels).

Thanks, Nuance. I guess I'm figuring that if these little Orbs do a respectable job, then if I put a nicer quality speaker back there then it'll be all the better. I think the Vandies are very classy looking, too, and the price is right. I figured they were more expensive than they are, so I was glad to see they are very reasonable.

I may just have to keep bugging John DeVore about some on-walls....he started developing a line of them a few years ago, but they've been on hold since then.

The VSM-1/VSM-1 Signatures are coaxial and designed to be wall-mounted with a drywall bracket. Ideally you want the woofer/tweeter pointed directly at the listening position.

I have Vandersteen 3A Signatures, VCC-1, and VSM-1 setup in my home theater - the combination sounds great.
