View Full Version : NHT Xd Owners... Are you out there? cue03 10-20-07, 01:38 AM I know you guys are out there? Who owns what? Does anyone have anything beyond a 2.1 or a 2.2 setup? Thanks deeppurpleman 10-20-07, 11:13 AM Head over to this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=575291 Alimentall 10-20-07, 03:38 PM There are several Xd owners on board - Tim916, Mark Russ, Romanesq if he's still around. I don't think any of them are multi-channel owners, but I have a lot of non-AVS customers that have 4.2 or 6.3 systems and others that have hybrid analog/digital systems. There are pluses and minuses to each system. I do think that 6.3 makes more sense than 7 channel Xd systems, a) for value, b) for the reason that PLIIx really lacks the precision and clarity of a Dolby EX/DTS-ES decoding schemes, so that makes using $10K-$12K worth of surround speakers kind of silly. cue03 10-20-07, 05:08 PM John, I sent you a PM with a question. I look forward to a response. Thanks for providing information in this thread. Curtis jonbar 03-20-08, 02:26 PM I need suggestions regarding 5.1/6.1 setup with NHT Xd System. I own (2) Xd Systems (not yet unpacked) with Controller and Power 2. This is my 1st HT setup, but am old time 'audio' person. Will now use (1) system for both HT and audio. I listen to music at least 50% of time. I will NOT purchase 3rd Xd System. Option #1 - 5.2 System- and must purchase Center Channel - which one??? Am told 'matching' sound to fronts is very important - especially for music. or Option #2 - 6.2 System- and must purchase Surround Pair; will use (1) Xd for Center and (1) Xd for Rear. - I can find surrounds that will work - much less crucial in terms of 'matching. What do you suggest? If Option #1, what Centers should I listen to. len Randybes 03-20-08, 03:48 PM I know you guys are out there? Who owns what? Does anyone have anything beyond a 2.1 or a 2.2 setup? ThanksI am the new owner of 6 boxes (2.1) sitting in my home theater room but I haven't set the system up yet and won't till this weekend. Which brings me to a question for John. Did you see Chris Byrne's blog about one commenter termed the "son of xd"? I was surprised since they were getting out of that end of the business (electronic and DSP)-at least I thought. buzzy_ 03-20-08, 04:10 PM As far as son of xd, that seemed like a very speculative comment as to if or when. Also, fyi: http://www.dealerscope.com/story/story.bsp?sid=90174&var=story Future product direction will be made clear, he added, in a few months. “We will start product development in eight or nine months,” he said, “but we really want to get our legs underneath us first and make sure our customers are happy and everything’s taken care of before we do too much new stuff. We’ll get the sales structure going first, and then add the engineering in about a month.” Byrne said the game plan is, in essence, a return to NHT’s roots – “cutting things that were experimental and non-core” – so the company will sell off the balance of its stock in the DSP-corrected Xd product while maintaining full service and support for products already in the market. Additionally, he said, “we’ve discontinued the electronics the Vinci folks brought to us, although we’re retaining one of their employees so we can support it going forward. There will be no customer or dealer issues, and we’ll be able to take care of that product as long as it’s in the field.” Alimentall 03-21-08, 01:19 AM I am the new owner of 6 boxes (2.1) sitting in my home theater room but I haven't set the system up yet and won't till this weekend. Otherwise, it's fantasy. Randybes 03-21-08, 02:13 PM my attitude, founded on long experience, is that, an NHT product only exists when it exists. Otherwise, it's fantasy.True for a lot of other companies as well.:) buzzy_ 03-21-08, 05:07 PM The point was, though, that quote says they don't have an engineering team right now, and are not even talking about starting product development on anything new for a while. And a new Xd doesn't seem likely to be at the top of the to-do list. So whether it's a dream or a fantasy, it's not happening in the forseeable future. |
