I was considering this sub which will keep it under 1000$ total
Dayton SUB-120 12" 150 Watt Powered Sub .. $148.88

The room is approx 15 x 15 or so, I dont want to upgrade for a long while. I am also not interested in bookshelf speakers. I mainly watch movies and would on occasion listen to music (parties etc)

I really need help deciding, what is your experience with the two. I want to pull the trigger soon (tonight hopeful), their both sitting in my cart! By the way, I already have the Onkyo TX-SR605, 50 inch Panasonic 1080p plasma and Toshiba A30 HD-DVD player

the athena center channel sucks and definitely can't keep up with the f2's (i have them). you might try the bookshelf2 if you really need a center, but a lot of people, actually an increasing number, are finding that the center channel isn't needed. my experience is with the older version, not the .2 version.

I vote for the av123 stuff. The build quality is just much better in my opinion. I never like the Athena stuff, so...

AV123 has a risk free trial on the X-LS bookshelf. Why not compare the two bookshelves and see which sound you prefer?

When BB was closing out Athena's for 50% off a couple of years ago.... there was a groundswell of folks around here flocking to Athena in DROVES to gobble them up. I ventured to BB to see what all the hub-bub was about. Well, now this is IMHO mind you.... either the folks raving about them were coming from little plastic HTIB speakers, or were totally tone deaf.

They were very bright and "tizzy" up top, had no mid range warmth or presence at all, but they DID have bass. Big BOOMING bass that was wonderful at going thump, thump, thump all day long but was about as tuneful as a deaf bloodhound howling at the moon. Again, IMHO.... they got a lot of "boxes" for the money, but NOT high end sound quality.

With "X" stuff from AV123.... you're getting furniture grade cabinets producing sound that has already garnered TONS of "product of the year awards" from various venues. They've also been VERY well reviewed both professionally and by owners. I've heard the entire lines of both products. And, to me.... it wouldn't even be close.

But, what I hear (nor the others on an open forum really) and think shouldn't matter didly squat to you. What REALLY matters is what sound YOU prefer in your room on your gear. The ONLY way to do that, is actually audition them side by side for yourself. Like the above poster mentioned, audition a pair of the bookshelfs first to see and hear the differences between the two.

Good luck....

I believed Quadriverfalls months ago and could not be happier with the X-LS's. The center unit is strong and clear without overpowering. And I paid $220/pr. plus frt. for my satin blk's.
