I was wondering which speaker sounds the best for HT and less likely to fatigue you ears. Thank you.

I own the Rocket RS760 and it is not fatiguing, so I can bet the 850 is not since they have the same tweeter.

I've not heard the Def Techs, so am unable to speak about them. However, I own the 850s and have never, under any circumstances, found them to be fatiguing. YMMV.

They will both produce a totally different sound. The Def Tech's are multi-directional speakers while the Rocket's are direct radiating speakers. The Def Tech's have drivers, not only in the front, but in the back as well. The reason for this is to use your room's acoustics to add to the sound of the signal by bouncing the sound off the walls and what not. In my opinion, this sound very inaccurate but your mileage may vary. I much prefer the sound from a direct radiating speaker, preferably a baffleless speaker; but that's just me.

Can you audition both, perhaps in your own home or in the same home?

I agree with Nuance. The Def Tech Bipolar speakers will be much more room-acoustics dependent than the RS 850's, (although some baffleless speakers will exhibit this same phenomenon).

For HT purposes, I greatly prefer monopole speakers for the front soundstage. Movies are mixed with monopole speakers and have very distinct directionality, (sound localization) cues. The reflected sound from a bipole speaker like the Def Tech's will smear the sound localization cues and make them less distinct.

The other issue with the Def Tech bipoles is that they don't make a matching CC. This is very important. You want the entire front soundstage to have the same sonic characteristics. I heard the Rocket 850's and the Bigfoot CC together at a friends house a few weeks ago. It is an awesome system and not in the least fatiguing. Also, that line is on sale right now.
