View Full Version : What is the best Movie Set coming to HD/BD this year? mswoods1 10-20-07, 09:57 PM It's your favorite kind of AVS post... a poll! RDarrylR 10-20-07, 10:02 PM I don't think the 1st two Shrek movies have been announced at all and I have not seen any info on a Pirates set or a Bourne set. Dot50Cal 10-20-07, 10:04 PM Always been a fan of the Die Hard series, cant wait :) rob71 10-20-07, 10:07 PM I picked Die Hard even thought two was not the greatest. mswoods1 10-20-07, 10:08 PM I don't think the 1st two Shrek movies have been announced at all and I have not seen any info on a Pirates set or a Bourne set. The Bourne movies are coming out with a "Jason Bourne Collection", which will be available the day Ultimatum is released. Info is here: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1136/jasonbournecollection.html Pirates has not announced a set, but I would presume one would be on the way nonetheless. Even if it's not, you can still purchase all three on BD. And you're right, Shrek 1-2 haven't been announced. But I thought it should be an option since it's a trilogy that should be coming to HD DVD soon. There's more that could've been added as an option of "should be very coming soon" like LOTR, but since none of the movies have been announced at all yet, didn't want to jump the gun on those like I did Shrek. oregoncalfroper 10-20-07, 10:16 PM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! mswoods1 10-20-07, 10:19 PM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! Perhaps, but I think what would also skew the results of this poll is that everyone here at AVS is an AV enthusiast, and may have different tastes in movies than the general public. mswoods1 10-20-07, 10:24 PM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! Oh, and you know what? Spider-man isn't the highest grossing trilogy on the list. POTC beats it: At World's End $960,972,282 Dead Man's Chest $1,066,179,725 Curse of the Black Pearl $654,264,015 = $2,680,308,734 Spider-man 3 $890,500,325 Spider-man 2 $783,766,341 Spider-man 1 $821,708,551 = $2,495,718,076 And Shrek comes in at $2,161,714,655, but I doubt it'll get many votes. romper 10-20-07, 10:30 PM Sorry, but I have to go a little out of bounds of this thread. With 3 versions included, I will vote for [B]BLADERUNNER[B]. Since so many Kubrick movies are being released next week it's like a set. IMHO. Other wise my sons are crazy about Bourne. lemonhead99 10-20-07, 10:35 PM Gotta admit the Die Hard series is my favorite. Vriess 10-21-07, 12:41 AM Die Hard for me too. 2Channel 10-21-07, 01:05 AM Based on the choices it's the Bourne Trilogy for me. But if Blade Runner had been on the list, I would have voted for that. They're both very close in importance for me though. MichaelHDDVD 10-21-07, 01:09 AM Tough choice between Bourne and Potter. However the huge Harry Potter fan in me won. Ergoguy34 10-21-07, 01:16 AM If the LOTR Trilogy was due to be released that would, hands down be my pick. zero_zep 10-21-07, 01:31 AM I'll vote Bourne. Of course I like movies in the sets of the other series but bourne is the only one where I like every movie in the set. Die hard is a close second though. TuenMuner 10-21-07, 01:37 AM Die Hard got my vote. Shmack 10-21-07, 02:12 AM I almost voted for Bourne, as I think they are excellent movies, but I think the Potter movies will actually be "better" on HD due to the visuals. vancouver 10-21-07, 02:48 AM Bourne Die Hard dobyblue 10-21-07, 03:08 AM Getting all 5 existing Harry Potter movies? Easy decision. ugk 10-21-07, 05:34 AM POTC, then Bourne vinnie97 10-21-07, 06:04 AM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! Funny, I swing red and haven't touched the Harry Pothead series, have only seen the first of the Spiderman and PoTC trilogies with no interest to see anymore and while I wouldn't mind Diehard, Bourne has the edge due to being a newer trilogy (and Diehard is over-the-top popcorn cheesy). I've outed myself for you now, though...burn me at the stake. ;) R Miyashiro 10-21-07, 06:31 AM I'm planning on buying the Potter collection since I've only seen the first and fifth movie, and want to see the rest. I own the first two Pirates Blu's and will probably get the third for completion, and to see if it is as bad as people say. I have not seen the Bourne movies, and thinking on getting all three on HD soon. None of these are actually on my must get list unlike the Blade Runner set (5 discs has to count as a set) which I plan on getting, or LOTR when it is released. vurbano 10-21-07, 06:44 AM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! I disagree. Everyone knows I favor HD DVD and yet I voted HP. David Scott 10-21-07, 07:09 AM Bourne Die Hard Potter not based on my "fanboy" status or a vote for what someone deems "popular", but solely on what I find entertaining and to be good movies. JeffY 10-21-07, 07:27 AM I voted for Potter but I probably won't buy the box set. I already have GoF and the individual movies are available in the UK a full month ahead of the US. nyg 10-21-07, 09:07 AM My favorites: 1. Spidey (this box is my most anticipated release in HD thus far!) 2. Die Hard 3. Bourne Also getting for my wife and kids: 1. Harry Potter 2. POTC We have no interest in Oceans or Shrek. Haroon Malik 10-21-07, 09:28 AM From a personal point of view the movies I can watch again and again are the Die Hard Series, Bourne Series, Pirates of the Caribbean. Shrek 2 was the best out of the lot in my personal opinion. 1 was good and 3 was a bit of a downer for me. Spidey 2 was the best one and 1 was ok while 3 was average. I don't plan on buying these movies as a box set. From the 3 series that I named, Die Hard is my favourite and I have those movies on VHS mono, VHS stereo, Laser & DVD. I will preferably wait it out till there is a version with both Dolby and DTS soundtracks because going by past history Fox has a habit of re-releasing with new features and this current feature doesn't have everything I would like. As a series you can watch again and again with friends, John McClane, Jason Bourne and Jack Sparrow stand out from the rest IMO. Ironic that all their names also start with a "J"!:D P.S. Ocean's series is also enjoyable IMO and I might consider that. mikemorel 10-21-07, 09:37 AM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies!Or maybe people (not "fanboys") simply think Bourne are better movies than Spiderman? This is where your bias comes in to play. The question asked is an opinion: "what is the best movie set coming to HD/BD this year?". If the question was "which has the most box office receipts" or "which has sold the most DVDs" there wouldn't be any point in making a poll - the OP could just look it up. Urza 10-21-07, 09:53 AM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! That is just plain stupid. I chose Bourne because it was better, not because it sold more. Thanks for telling everyone how to vote:rolleyes: MichaelHDDVD 10-21-07, 10:46 AM This should be a public poll as some fanboys will vote Bourne because it is HD DVD when I think is is pretty clear that Spiderman is the most popular of all of those movies at least in America based on dvd sales and Box Office Receipts. I would say as far as overall worldwide numbers HP probably trumps everything with it also being a whopping 5 movies! So by your standards people aren't allowed to like the Bourne Trilogy better than the Spider-Man Trilogy? Shrek is also HD DVD exclusive, why wouldn't HD DVD owners vote for that one like crazy? Maybe it's because people here like Bourne better than Shrek and Spider-Man ;) FYI I voted for Harry Potter Double FYI Bourne Ultimatum > Spider-Man 3 One last FYI Bourne has more votes than Spider-Man + Pirates + Die Hard combined. The 3 exclusive Blu-Ray sets  Damed 10-21-07, 10:56 AM Nothing on the list. The Blade Runner briefcase set would get my vote. DeaconFrost 10-21-07, 11:26 AM Perhaps not really a 'set' as such, but the 5 Kubrick classics coming to HD in a few days would get my vote. :D Otherwise the Borne trilogy and the Die Hards would get my vote. Slim GoodBooty 10-21-07, 11:33 AM The Matrix on BD. Zoo 10-21-07, 12:36 PM I voted Diehard based on the choices. I really enjoyed the Bourne flicks as well. Frankly I'm surprised that anyone voted for Ocean's. Not exactly the epitome of great movies. Then again I love some flicks that were raked over the coals by critics. For me I would love to have Superman 1-3 (I am a Richard Pryor fan so forgive me on Superman III). I would love to have Superman II in both the Donner cut and the original theatrical release. Perhaps the theatrical release will come out on HD-DVD or they will re-do the one that is out with streaming. When I get into HDM the first two Supermans will be in my first 10 purchases for sure!:) Sielle 10-21-07, 01:50 PM No Bladerunner? MEC2 10-21-07, 03:14 PM Horrible poll. Best box set this year (if they can get it out) is the Jack Ryan collection. MEC2 zero002021 10-21-07, 04:34 PM The Bourne Trilogy gets my vote with Die Hard coming in at a close second. josephmckinney 10-21-07, 05:08 PM Harry Potter gets my vote with POTC and Spider Man right behind. eric.exe 10-21-07, 09:31 PM Bourne, all the movies are good. The others have mixes of good and bad movies. makingmusic476 10-21-07, 11:51 PM HP or PotC. If only Warner had another alternative to the HP box set. What happens in a couple of years when I get 6 and 7? They won't go with the set, and it's fancy looks and uniformity will nullified. Maybe one with available room for6&7 when they arrive? kamspy 10-22-07, 01:07 AM When did they announce a PotC Box Set? valkyrie 10-22-07, 10:49 AM I guess I'll vote Bourne, but I have to say Battlestar Galactica would get my vote for best series on HD! I simply can't wait to see it in HD. raaj 10-22-07, 11:38 AM I am format neutral, and watch all movies on both formats, irrespective of my soft-corner for HD-DVD. I voted for Harry Potter series, and would like to follow that up with Spiderman trilogy. |
