Have users here had good experience with the wireless network USB adapter Tivo sells? Does the user configure it on a computer or or is it configured while plugged into the Tivo box USB port (which is of course where it will be used)?

It is the only way to do MRV, AFAIC. It significantly improves performance over even the best quality competitor wireless adapters.

I didn't need to do anything to configure it. Plug them in and go.

What Tivo software version are you using with your wireless adapter?I have Tivo version 8.3 something. Tivo recommends using the latest, which is 9.1, which they haven't pushed to me yet. (I've just done the online request thing, so maybe I'll have 9.1 in a few days.)

You have no control over the software version, so don't worry about that. I installed the TiVo adapters with version 3.1, and am now running 9.1.

You can configure everything that needs configuring (network name, and WEP/WPA keys) via the Network & Phone settings. However, as I understand it, the TiVo didn't support WPA until the 8.2.x/8.3.x software revisions, so if your home wireless network is using WPA, you will have to disable it until you get a current software revision if your TiVo is running older software now.

FYI, I setup my S3 with the adapter with WPA in mid June with no problem.

PS - After my initial post, I remembered that my S3 was connected by ethernet for about a week since the ordered wireless adapter was not in the same shipment so I likely got the firmware upgrade before I installed the adapter.

It does for the Ethernet (wired) interface, so I'm guessing it'll do so for the wireless interface as well - though I'd be surprised if there's not a sticker somewhere on its exterior (probably the bottom) indicating the MAC address also.

Hi. Trying to replace the USB cable that comes with the TiVo Wireless unit. I know the TiVo end is USB Type A 4-pin male connector. Is the wireless unit end a USB mini B 5-pin connector?

It depends on how your provider flags their channels. Unfortunately it seems you've ended up with one of the more restrictive providers. As part of the CableCARD licensing, the TiVo is bound to follow the flags about content handling, so they're just doing what they have to do. And yes, as I understand it, FiOS is much more lax about their flagging. My provider is as well - I transfer content even off HBO-HD with mine, as apparently they don't know or care to bother with setting the flags. It just depends. :o
