View Full Version : Windex problem, need help with options and solutions.
I have a 57732 and recently, my 2 year old son had gotten a hold of a bottle of window cleaner that my daughter left on the counter where he could get it. He ended up spraying the screen of the TV.
The local shop I bought it from has told me the screens have to be replaced. I'm a little confused when he said screens, and exactly what has happened to the screen. I guess I'm ignorant in the construction of DLP's? What exactly is behind the viewing screen that the liquid went into? However, the big black blob on the screen is gone, all that is there is what remains of the residue that Windex leaves behind. It's almost unnoticeable to anyone else except people who know it's there. Can that residue be removed? Or is replacement my only option?
I'd really appreciate some help before I run out and spend $550 to replace these screens.

speekergeek 10-21-07, 04:22 PM You can clean in-between the screens. but it's a hell of a job. there are usually 3 layers of "screen", sometimes 2. if a liquid is spilled (or sprayed) onto the screen with enough impetus, it will drip down and soak up inbetween the screens due to a sort of "wicking" action. You can wait till it dries all the way and is less noticable, or take apart the screens taking care not to scratch them or get hair in-between them. Or pay some one OVER 500 bucks to fix it. they will probably want to replace the screen instead of clean it. but hey, what do i know.

montypythizzle 10-23-07, 10:03 PM I kind of have the same problem with a Phillips from ~2003, if anyone has anymore input it would be appreciated, thanks.
I heard so much stuff about NOT touching the screens, even with your fingers or it will be permanent.
Any more input?
STEVE050 10-23-07, 10:59 PM I don't know if you got enough on there to fill-up in the bottom lip space, and get between screens. If so, it's like speeker says.
The prob with cleaners is the screens are plastic and will perm fog from ammonia or other harsh cleaners. If the windex didn't fog it, you can gently clean the screen with a small amount of dish sink soap(Joy, etc.) on a dampened old cotton t-shirt( thoroughly wet, then wring out max= damp). This should take off a surface residue.
Note: fogged means it got into the surface. Only the front most smooth surface screen surface can easily be cleaned this way. I believe this MITS is two screenlenses.
Outermost screen is cleanable front, lenticular lens rear. 2nd screen is frsnel lens.
3 screen models have protector, lenticular, and fresnel.

Well, I didn't use Windex, (good I guess) but a ammonia free and other crap free glass cleaner alternative, it was blue however and left a weird shadow looking thing on the bottom of the screen and where it wicked up and now has a bluish tint on white scenes.
Ratnose86 10-24-07, 04:23 PM The same thing also happened to my mother in laws mitsubishi 65731 screen after my 2 year old boy sprayed it with windex. It seems to be improving but from what I am reading it won't go away completely. Guess I am out $500 bucks, unless would something like this be covered under a warranty? Seems like the mitsubishi DLPs have this problem in common, any replacement from the manufacturer possible?

IDK, you could probably ask, or take it back to the store and say it has screen defects ^_^.
