I have a 12" G4 PB that I want to use as a HTPC on my Sony KDL-32S2000 (with bt kb and mouse). The TV only has one HDMI/DVI input, so I need to use VGA. Right now I get an image up on the screen, but it is 4:3 and centered, rather than widescreen. I installed switchresx and put in a custom scaled 1366x768 resolution (the native res for my tv), which the program says is active, but it does not show up in the pull-down menu for displays in the menu bar. Am I missing something? Is there something else I should try? Thanks so much!

The 4x3 is strange, and suggests the problem is more on the Sony side than the Mac side. Just out of curiosity, I plugged my 12" PB (867MHz) into our bedroom 1366x768 32" LCD over VGA and it detected it right away, though not at native res. My 12" with a GeForce4 MX could only manage 1280x1024 but it filled the wide screen no problem, and actually looked quite good considering it's such an old, but loved, workhorse.
By the way, my 12" with a BT keyboard and mouse stood in well for an ad hoc HTPC when I had to send the Macbook in for a repair. Needed the M-Audio Firewire Solo to get digital audio out of it, and it of course couldn't playback HD, but it worked like a charm.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried a few more things, but still no luck. I am going to try the dvi/hdmi route and see if I have any better luck. The only idea I have is that when I get the monitor's "Monitor Description Block" in SwitchresX, I get two description blocks, one of which is the same as the 4:3 resolution that the desktop is showing up as. I'm not sure if the PB is only seeing the 4:3 resolution and if there is some way to get it to see the other one? I don't know, maybe this is totally wrong, but it is the only thing I can come up with.
Thanks.
