Warhawk v1.2 Patch
Posted by Dylan Jobe // Game Director, Warhawk

Ok … so last week I posted about our v1.1 patch which mainly dealt with core stats and connection issues. Today, I’d like to let all of you know what’s included in the v1.2 patch that is being tested right now.

Patch v1.2 addresses some main requests that our community has made as well as fixes the primary exploits and glitches … and adds some new layouts!

Patch v1.2 includes:
* 5 New layouts.
* Clan game server option.
* Buddy slot reservations.
* Integrated Warhawk Store.
* Updated CTF capture/return behavior.
* Internal stat padder protection.
* Booster Pack status display at join game list.
* DualShock3 integration.
* Separate SIXAXIS motion control on/off per mode (ground, hover, flight).
* Detailed Player Score display at end of game fixed.
* Added new server type filters (player, ranked, dedicated, clan, Official Warhawk, etc).
* Added new server full/open filter.
* Fall damage exploit fixed.
* Dismount into walls exploit fixed.
* Invisible Tank, Turret & Warhawk exploit fixed.
* Auto-kick of idle players.
* Add to Favorites button added to end game screen.
* Increased VOIP volume when not using headset.

There are a couple of items on this list that probably need a bit more clarification

The new clan-game server option lets you set 2 clan names, one for the Eucadian team and one for the Chernovan team. Then, when you launch the game, the server will auto-sort the clans on the correct teams. The server will also only allow members of those 2 clans to connect. Clan games are also displayed in a different color at the join game list.

Buddy slot reservations allow you to specify a number of player slots on the server that *only* players in your PSN buddy list can join. So go ahead and kick up a game and you can always make sure that you friends can jump in with you and get their Warhawk on!

We also fixed what a lot of players refer to as the “tank” glitch. This actually could happen to turrets and Warhawks too. It is an annoying exploit and we’re happy to have it fixed – I’m sure all of you will be too!

We enabled DualShock3 functionality in the V1.2 patch too … maybe you all have heard something about this or read about it on the internet? Ha Ha

The Warhawk Store is also going to be enabled in v1.2. This allows players to purchase Warhawk content, Booster Packs, etc from within Warhawk, rather than going through the XMB and then to the store – this is mainly for convenience.

And of course some new layouts – as you’ve seen from the images scattered throughout this post!

We have found that while a lot of players like playing the really large games, there was a pretty big segment that was playing smaller games. With that trend, we wanted to rig some new layouts that are more geared for smaller games; 4 to 8 players. The new layouts are:

* Eucadia: High City
* Island Outpost: Standoff
* The Badlands: South City
* Destroyed Capitol: Garden Showdown
* Archipelago: Close Corridors

So there you have it. The update list for patch v1.2 that is currently being tested right now and we are tracking an early to mid December global release.

And of course I can’t end this post without mentioning the Booster Pack. So there, I said it…”Booster Pack”

LOLOLOL

No seriously … my next post in just a few days will give you all a glimpse of an internal gameplay session we had with the Booster Pack. It’s just a glimpse because as I’ve said before, our top priority has been on the v1.1 and v1.2 updates.

Over and out…

No word of new "carrier vehicle"? I was really looking forward to this type of vehicle.

awesome awesome awesome. Can't commend Dylan & the guys enough for their communication with the Warhawk community.

When is 1.2 supposed to roll out?

Dylan's post regarding the updated "CTF capture/return behavior:"

@ Everyone who has CTF questions :-)

Here’s the new behavior:

There is one flag timer – it counts up when being carried away by the opposing team and counts down when dropped. It counts down faster as more members of the team surround it. The timer does not automatically reset if you leave the capture radius. Nor does it reset if you fought to almost get the flag returned and then were killed.

The timers are basically persistent now.

There is a new mode activated after both flags are away from the base for some time to prevent stalemates – “Sudden Death mode” where both flags are visible to everyone and the flag counts down very fast.

The flag carrier is visible only when in a vehicle, someone observes from the warhawk passenger slot or Sudden death mode is in effect.

That'll be in the "Booster Pack", this is just a patch.

I don't know, Avarice, this still all seems pretty...weak. And I'm not sure I understand your fascination with Dylan Jobe's communication skills. Sure, he says a lot, but...not much happens. Try Insomniac for actual gamer/developer interaction. Myself, I've had personal responses from a few guys at Insomniac about RFoM, and they've actually listened to me on a couple points.

I don't think any of these new things being developed for the next patch actually change much about the game, itself. Got excited about the buddy list, until I read on: It only works for buddies already on your PSN network of friends? Huh? :confused: Why is it so incomprehensible to be able to fire off buddy invites in-game? I've stated my issues with Warhawk more than enough in here, but until Dylan Jobe actually does something to make the game more interactive on-line, there's really only so much new map-layouts and a few fixed glitches is going to improve the game.

In my mind, Warhawk has/had the potential for greatness, if only for it's lack of implementing the very basics for on-line play.

^^ To each their own....

I appreciate them doing everything they can to improve the game. Not everybody's priorities are the same, obviously, but they've committed to the fix the biggest deficiencies (from the majority's standpoint).

It's a great game, regardless, and the most fun I've had with my PS3 to date.

Maybe because you're a killing machine on it! :p

I'm willing to agree to disagree with you on this one, (I frustrate myself with all my negative rebuttals of this game) but when someone says something like, "I appreciate them doing everything they can to improve the game," I have to say, "How about just get the basics right!"

I see your point, but the fact of the matter is that the developers of Warhawk are, at the very least moving towards what people think it should have been from the onset, will it ever be the utopia of on-line gaming probably not but it's still a great title even with its existing flaws. Please don't get me wrong, I'm in no way defending or blissfully agreeing with the current efforts from Insomniac but it is encouraging the see them chipping away at the mountain of issues - IMO the roll-out of v1.2 is a hugely needed, albeit quite late update - doesn't fix the everything, but again a place to begin.

I can't help my nature. I admit, I definitely think too much about the details of things. I'm the same at work when I talk to management about how badly they're running things. And to me, phrases like "moving towards" are pure management B.S. Why just move towards, when you can actually stand in the bloody spot?

They can chip away at the mountains of issues all they want, but there shouldn't have been a mountain of issues to begin with. They had a substantial Beta run, they had all the time they needed to work out some pretty basic deficiencies. It might not mater now, anyway. Patches seem much too late in coming, and before you know it, Ratchet and Clank, Haze, Killzone2, Drake....will reduce Warhawk into a vague memory of what could have been, if only...

I hear you...I spend my days among very ridged A-to-B engineers, planners and rail designers who needless to say have a much different outlook and sense of humor on most matters than myself (not that there's anything wrong with that); being a graphic designer for a LARGE engineering firm...talk about a circular peg in a square company:)

I do think you may be correct however, by the time Warhawk is where we as the gaming community would like it to be, well it may be to late...bring on Haze, MGS, Unreal I am ready...then again I do love planting mines in just the right place and calling in air support on an unsuspecting group of soliders!

I agree with you guys. Warhawk should have launched with an amazing online community, especially being an online-only title.
They had the beta, Resistance, and RR7 to look upon. Both titles have awesome online community features & they are launch titles.
This will be forgotten with all of the big titles coming out soon.

I think the flag count/up down is awesome. I hate when I'm at a flag trying to return it, I run too far away, and the counter resets. Or, you are running over to the flag to help your teammates return it, they all die, and when you get there two seconds later, you have to wait for the entire timer to count down.

one thing that i wish they would include in a patch is a "wait for vacancy" type feature which would come up after room full which would allow you to join on the next available vacancy. like a waiting room feature but only as an option in case you want to try another room just to get on.

I'm a little disappointed with the time it has taken them to react to some of the bugs. Most glaring are the join and stats problems. More robust chat features would have been nice as well.

I was hoping they would have delivered fixes sooner.

I can't tell from reading the list of improvements if the Stat problem is fixed. I am still a much higher rank than I should be. Do they talk about a fix for this at all? It's preventing me from playing because the server keeps telling me my rank is too high.

I have to agree with the above comments. By the time they fix this game and make it playable other games would have come out and over shadowed this game. Too bad because when it works it's a blast to play.

Those fixes are in the 1.1 patch. Coming "soon".
