I've been trying to answer this question for myself, but I haven't been able to find a direct answer. Do all PS3's have HDMI 1.3a, or just some of the newer revisions?

It dramatically increases the amount of bandwith that can be handled. HDMI 1.2 can handle 1080p and any hi rez audio format just fine. Are you aware of any plans to start authoring Blu-ray discs are higher resolution? Do you have a display with higher than 1080p resolution? I have a PS3. I don't know or care whether is can do HDMI 1.3 and you shouldn't either. Dixie Flatline 10-22-07, 04:29 PM HDMI 1.3 is a solution in search of a problem. The one imaginable use for HDMI 1.3 is if we get a PS3 firmware update that lets it pass DTS-MA audio as a bitstream, but doesn't let the PS3 decode it. In that case, you could pass DTS-MA to a receiver capable of decoding it. Is this likely? Not terribly, and it would be a temporary situation until the PS3 did get the ability to decode DTS-MA internally. _Avarice_ 10-22-07, 04:46 PM HDMI 1.3 is a solution in search of a problem. Thanks for the public service announcement.... :p It may be useful in passing HD audio via bitstream and video signals utilizing "deep color" in the not-too-distant future. It's always nice to be future-proofed, regardless. |
