Curious what your thoughts are on this. Post here your initial impressions, gameplay, etc.

Anyone picking this title up?

Are there any differences between this and the Xbox version? I tried searching for them but couldn't find any.

Anyone know the resolution supported (is it 1080P?)

I'd say its worth a rental (I will be), beyond that no. I'll most likely be getting it for 360 like all multi-platform games unless the PS3 version has some special features or is just simply a better play.

I actually liked the demo. But I won't buy it for until it's around $30.

I downloaded the demo last night, my suggestion is don't play Heavenly Sword or God of War any time beforehand. I wasn't terribly impressed to be honest.

I'm not very good in the hardcore hack-n-slash games like HS or GoW which is why I did a lot better in the simple Conan.

it looks terrible. Buy it if it's $20 or so.

No multi player is a deal killer for me.

So even if a crappy game has multiplayer you'll buy it? But if a great game (Oblivion, Heavenly Sword, God of War) doesn't, it's a deal killer? Just curious.

Gameinformer gave it a great review, saying the graphics in the distance are horrible, but up close, the battles, Conan, etc. are really detailed and looks great. They like the variety of weapons and fighting styles.

Well I tend to enjoy the company while playing, more than the game. It can make an average game alot more fun. For example Untold Legends Dark Kingdom is not a great game but played on the very hardest level with a good friend (offline) its was very enjoyable, we have been doing this for about 15 years. I really only enjoy hack and slash genre that are co-op. See Baldurs Gate and Champions of Norrath on PS2.

I hated oblivon (to rpgish) and God Of War and Heavnly Sword just didnt hold my interest in solo play but I would have bought both if they were co-op. I think I enjoy the tactics of 2 people as well as watching someone else kill something entirely different from how I would and laughing my ass off.

So in summary yes even a lameish game can be fun when played off line co-op with a good friend.

I have owned this game for about a month now. IT RULES!!!!! The graphics are pretty much PS2, but it's kinda a mix between God of War and Heavenly Sword. Really like the game, buy it if it goes on sale.

I agree to a certain point here....more simple-type co-op games would be fun. Developers think that everything has to be over-flashy 3D worlds.....

When I was a kid I remember saving my milk money & any other coin I could get my hands on and going up to the local bowling alley and blowing it on Ickari Warriors, Forgotten Worlds, Gauntlet, 1943, Contra, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original arcade version of course), Final Fight, Operation Wolf, Double Dragon......sometimes just chilling with a friend is more fun that wrecking your brain trying to figure out how to make Kratos take down Zues himself.

That siad, I hate FPS's on consoles....but Resistance is still a load of fun to march through with a friend in split screen.

I just picked this up 3 days ago. I was feeling a need of a slasher after finishing Heavenly Sword and picked this up on sale. Conan is really a pretty solid game. The combo system is deep, and rewarding to actually learn some of the bigger combos. You can really kill stuff in style with just a small bit of practice!

Anybody beat this game on hard??? I am at the final boss, from what I have read, it's going to be a long battle. Was wondering if you unlock anything after you beat it on hard???

This guy at work told me to rent this game. He said that Heavenly Sword's graphics aren't anything compared to this game. o.O

I rented this, and I COULD NOT beat the final boss.. one of the stages you had to fight against him was WAY too cheap.. Had to avoid his attacks & minions at the same time, plus I think there was only a small window you could actually damage him.. not fun at all..
Fun game up to that point, though. :)

I rented this and had a blast with it for a few hours! The crap that comes out of Conan's mouth is worth a rental -he sounds like a drunken John Wayne -I was constantly cracking up at how over-the-top some of the stuff was.

Entertaining, then it gets buggy -my "hit / impact sounds" kept glitching out later in the game, and I would only hear the music and ambience. Sometimes a reload would work, sometimes not.

Just picked this game up for $19.99. Although it's a typical hack & slash type game and the graphics aren't great, it's actually quite fun. If you are a Conan fan and can appreciate the Frazetta-esque art style, it's a great pickup at the reduced price. There is a demo on PSN for those that are interested.

The best way to describe Conan is this: If you loved GOLDEN AXE, you will love Conan. The game isn't hyper-fast like Ninja Gaiden or Heavenly Sword, it gives you about 800 different ways to dispatch your enemies...it just never gets old mixing up your weapons and fighting styles to take out the bad guys.

But if you are a Mt. Dew teen addicted to hyper-fast beat-em-ups, don't bother. This plays more like Final Fight with weapons.

The game has lots of little touches that are fun too...like tossing guys into fires and setting them ablaze, or picking up a torch and setting them on fire, or picking them up, beating them senseless and then tossing them into a spiked wall or something, even picking up pots and boulders and smashing guys with them....a truly great game if you like the genere.

The best of its breed right now (Vikings and Beowulf are horrible)

Its Golden Axe for the 2000's....its even got magic you can unleash....and all the bloody limbs flying through the air that you can stomach.

Beating the game on Hard and Insane unlock more cheats you can use, like infinite magic and "song of death", which is like when you kill a bunch of enemies in a row your weapons glow red and hum and do like 3x damage..etc....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/Stromboli/ConanVideoGameStygians.jpg

It also has a few God of War style huge boss battles you have to do, and some button-sequence kills I think too......I'd call it a God of War ripoff but this game lets you pick up any weapon you can find (or yoru enemies drop), which makes it alot more...I dunno...interesting..even if its cosmetic or superficial.

Any framerate or tearing issues? Looks good for $20, or I can grab it on goozex.

HeadRusch
10-24-08, 09:21 AM
Tearing, I can't recall...framerate? Nope, none at all....the visuals in this game are more along the lines of a last gen game than a next gen one. But that doesn't take away from its enjoyment....

Yeah, this game kind of reminds me of Heavenly Sword. Not only is it kind of short, the final boss is way harder than anything else in the game. I'm glad I only paid 20 bucks for it. Is there a pretty good payoff for finishing, cause I'm getting a bit frustrated fighting this Graven dude?

I enjoyed this game quite a bit as well, I think I paid around $20 for it new. A couple of the bosses were difficult but once you figured it out they were pretty easy. I used the walkthrough on gamefaqs.com when I got hung up. Not as good as HS but still lots of fun.
