My TV requires use of the remote to align the color guns. The problem is, you use the number keys to choose the area of the screen to align, and 3 of the numbers don't work.

I've looked at buying a replacement but the cheapest price I've seen on the net is $40. The average seems to be about $20 more than that. I hate to spend that much on something whose ONLY use would be to align the guns ( I have a universal remote that I use for everything else ). Unfortunately, the number keys on the universal don't seem to have been enabled when I entered the code for my TV remote.

Next, I thought I'd just train the universal to address those three keys. But, then I realized I couldn't train the universal if the TV's remote keys wouldn't transmit the code.

I'm far from an expert with remotes, so I thought I'd ask folks who ARE experts. Does anyone know of a solution to my dilemma?

Is it possible to get the codes for the numeric keys?
Can I interpolate using the keys above and below the non-functional keys, somehow deriving the numeric keys?
Is there a list somewhere of remote's individual key codes?

My universal remote is a Time Warner Synergy V and the TV remote is a Panasonic EUR7603Z30.

Thanks in advance.

Just to confirm: you are hitting the "TV" button to take the remote off the cable setting before trying the number buttons, correct?

If so: the Synergy V has several Panasonic remote codes - have you tried all of them? According to the code list, they are 046, 043, 045, 042, 044, 429.

I'd try them all and see if one of them enables the number buttons.

Some cable remotes have channel lock so that the keys associated with changing channels control the cable box, even in TV mode. Did you turn that feature off? It seems like "Mode Lock" described here (http://help.rcn.com/files/ONNET6907/remotes/RC-U62CDR/#Mode%20Lock) is something similar.

Good call... that'll probably do it.

Yes, tried them all. Only one actually worked, and it didn't control the numbers.

I'll try that when I get home. Thanks!

Sure enough, Mode Lock was to blame. Thanks a million! ( or at least $40! )
