Greetings everyone. AVS doesn't have a newb/introduction section so I thought I'd just post one here.

Been lurking for a few months and joined the AVS Forum today. Been doing some research on TVs, Receivers, Speakers, Subs etc...

Anyway, just wanted to say HI and post my basement project thread from the BBF Forum. We are in the final stages of completion as you can see from the thread link below and pictures on my photobucket account.

Edit: Well I can't post links yet, must have at least 3 posts to avoid the spammers. Anyway, my photobucket account is in my signature, just go to the Home Improvement page and then the basement folder.

My basement project thread can be located on the Big Block Ford Forum or 460ford dot com and search for "Basement" by author "Phantasea466" It's a very interesting and FUNNY thread :)

In the VERY near future, I'll be asking some general questions regarding Home Theater items. As of now I'm leaning towards a Samsung 56" DLP with the LED light source model HL-TS5687S for our viewing needs. Receiver will most likely be the Onkyo TX-SR605 unit. Still undecided on sub and speakers.

Thanks for a great forum with a TON of information and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you guys.

Welcome to the forum!

I'll have to look at your pics later-- I can't see photobucket stuff from where I currently sit. So, without having seen them and at what stage you are in construction, I'll still offer this first suggestion-- seeing that you're putting this in the basement, look into projectors. In the basement, you'll have some natural light control, and there's nothing like movies and sports on a screen that's measured in feet instead of inches.

GreySkies,

The basement is 90% finished. Need to do some trim work like baseboards, entry way jam and wire up a few receptacles.

So how would I hide the projector wires IF I were to get a projector? The ceiling is finished and there is no way to get the wires through the ceiling without using one of my speaker wires for a 'pull' and hope it doesn't break

What would be a good projector to look into IF I were to go this route? Size would also be a non issue since I have 9 foot celings and 15 feet of wall space...... Well More like 12 to 13 feet since I just put in the wall sconces

I'm open to suggestions if there's a way to hide the wires.

Here's a few pictures

The wall in the background is the entertainment (TV) area.

Here's the seating area.

Thanks!

I took a look at your pics last night-- looks really nice. It might be a problem putting a projector in that room, unless you want to either a) dig into some of that new drywall, or b) have cables surface-mounted (of which, I am not a fan).

I think a projector is out of the equation. It wasn't even an option when I started hanging lights, running wires and planning the locations of the ceiling fan, pool table and light.

Hind sight is always 20/20, Now I see a HD projector would have been a NICE addition.
