Hello all,
I am in need of a subwoofer and am right now considering only a Velodyne DD-12.
Should I consider any other sub?
Thanks,
Doc

If you are considering a DD12, then you definitely have some budget to play with. If you want a small sub, the DD12 is as good as they come. If you don't mind a much bigger sub, then there are TONS of other ones you should consider. One of the direct competitors in this range would be the JL F112
It also depends on how big of a room you are trying to fill, how you want it to look, are you listening to movies mainly, and whether you don't mind trying some of the Internet Direct brands which you audition at home instead of a store.
thanks
how would the JL 112 compare with the dd-12?
i was looking for a rather smaller sub due to the room size (no 15")
thanks

Each has it's own advantage. The JL will have greater output, but the DD has a very powerful built-in eq system. Quality-wise, the two should be pretty close. For HT, the JL would have an edge. Is you priority music or movies?
I don't want to steer you away from such high quality subs (since those two are) but don't forget to consider the SVS and HSU options depending on your overall goals.
They certainly lack some of the features but with the reviews, service and output from either of these companies you can certainly reach room shaking levels for half the cost.
Like some said, make sure you try a few of the subs out.

In the compact sub department, it would be hard to top the JL's for movies and they should be neck-in-neck with the Velo DD's for music. The f112 should have at least 6db greater output then the DD-12 at 20hz. That will make a difference for movies.

Or if you got the cash to play with, combine Velo SMS-1 equalization with the JL sub.
