I just got a call from the repair shop. $300 to fix the OM-200 because the amp board on it died. They said they tried replacing the fuse on it and it kept popping.

I called up Mirage and the part they quoted me was the same price either way.

So now I have a question for you guys. Do I repair the Sub for $300 + $79 in labor, or do I just start looking for a new sub?

If I do, I am going to try and get the labor charges dropped by asking them to wave them if I buy from their store.

So, if I go for new, I will have $400 to play with. The subwoofer in its day was almost $1000...

Please give me some advice. Either way this was an expense I did not want or need right now!

$400 won't get you much of a sub except a basic Hsu STF-1. The STF-1 is pretty formidable and would actually come close to your Mirage, but the Mirage would probably still sound at least as good or better. I remember hearing the OM200 a while back when it was being discontinued a couple of years ago and it was very clean sounding with still decent output for its size.

I think your best bet is to see if you can have them wave the labor.
