I have presently have the triple LNB dish to get my HD programming. The dish is mounted on a 8ft pole; I had increased the height of the pole about a year ago as the trees on my property looked like at some point in time they were going to interfer with reception. The 8ft pole can be on the shakey side when there is a high wind even though it is mounted in concrete as one time last year a heavy wind storm moved the base of the pole kncking the dish out of alighment. I decided to try and upgrade to MPEG-4 system. A direct tech finally came out today(another horror story for another day dealing with installation), after looking at the setup he said the new dish would have to be mounted on a pole about as high as my present pole. He stated that it wasn't advisable to use a pole that high with the dish used with MPEG-4 beacuse of wind loading. I tended to agree with him on that point, as I saw no good way supporting the pole to prevent wind sway. I asked the tech if there was anyway to install the MPEG-4 dish on a regular pole mount and tie it together with the present dish with a multiswitch, he said it couldn't be done beacuse of different frequencies. Is he correct in that statement or can something like that be done. I guess my last resort would to try Dish, anyone know on what birds their HD and regular programming would come from; 30 HD channels are better than 10.

He is correct, you can't combine the 5 LNB and 3 LNB dishes. Only way to support a dish that high up would probably be guy wires to give it additional support I'd think.

How about a twelve foot, 4 inch diameter steel pole, set 3 feet deep in concrete. I would also fill the inside of the pole with concrete. That should be stable enough for any wind load and put the dish nine feet off the ground. Should cost less that $150. if you are willing to do the work.

Just my $.02

Matt thanks, I was thinking along the same line using guy wires. The only problem is that I don't have anything to attach them to, other than the ground. I would probably to put the guy terminations in concrete just more of a pain in the a**.
