Ok so I’m kind of lost here, how do you define a room size when it comes to buying a sub?

A small room is up to how many sq feet?

A medium room is up to how many sq feet?

Those are qualitative questions. What's big or small for me, may not be big or small for someone else. Here in KS where land is an abundance, we build out, not up. To me a medium sized room is 400ft^2; A small room, under 225ft^2.

Thanks for the reply Looney, the reason i ask is many times you see people saying I have a "small" room or I have a "medium" room when talkinng subs but I have seen no guidlines for room sizes. I just ordered me a sub for my 304sq ft room and had heard many people say the sub was good up to a medium sized rooms.

Here's a handy chart that shows how Dr. Hsu (http://www.hsuresearch.com/index.html) breaks it down:

I like the classification that Dr Hsu (see above post) gives. I usually go by that chart when I say "medium room"

Not meaning to hi-jack your thread but I have a question concerning my recently finished part of the basement. It's 15 X 50 equaling 6750 cubic feet however only 1/3 of the room will be used for Home Theater and the rest is the game room.

My question is, the room is all open space so most likely I'll need a LARGE sub?

HT area is on the far wall (Sofa and Love Seat aren't in this picture)

I plan on placing the sub under a corner table between the sofa and love seat.

Yes. Since it is an open room, you will in effect be trying to fill that entire space with bass. Unless you could isolate the room, I think you would need a larger sub. Or maybe even more then one down the road.

That's what I figured........ That's going to be expen$ive  In the next few days I'll be posting a few threads regarding my future Sub/Speaker plans with details and more pictures for illustration.

I'm glad I found the AVS Forum......

Cool. The more info and budget and size requirements you can post the better.

That's what I'll do however I'll start a new thread instead of hi-jacking this thread :p
