This is a sketch of what I wish to do, can anyone tell me if this is too ambitious for this sized room, and I know its cluttered but I don't have a choice.

JoeTiVo 10-23-07, 05:55 PM Looks like it shouldn't take long to do at all. :) wipron 10-23-07, 05:58 PM Too much white for my tastes. dunragit 10-23-07, 06:00 PM hopefully this work this time dunragit 10-23-07, 06:04 PM Hey, nice pics. How long did the project take? dunragit 10-23-07, 06:05 PM Looks like it shouldn't take long to do at all. :) Man a rough day, how long did your project take? wipron 10-23-07, 06:16 PM I actually use my garage as my HT. Same size as yours. Unfortunately, I can only use it as such during spring, summer and fall. During winter car must be inside (live in MN). I have an AC unit for the summer and a Heating Unit for when it's cold. I really like the big square room. You can do all sorts of things as you go along. I have a CRT hanging from the ceiling and all the wires go into the ceiling to the back wall. I have a cabinet that is 9 feet high, and all my components go behind doors in the top of it. (receiver, HD receiver, HD-DVD player and a DVD recorder. Works good that way nobody can see any components. Winter time I just cover up the CRT and keep the doors shut, stack the furniture. Then wait for spring!! Anyway, your project looks like it will be fun for you to do. Go For IT!! Good Luck!! dunragit 10-23-07, 06:21 PM I live in NE Oklahoma -mild winters usually. I need to find somewhere to understand the acoustics of room construction, I intend to rip out the walls and insulate, so now is the time to figure it out. JoeTiVo 10-23-07, 06:30 PM Man a rough day, how long did your project take? I know what you mean about the long days. :) I think you have enough room to do what you propose. My theater is 21 x 14 and I had more than enough room for two rows of seating. You should be able to fit to rows of recliners in. My project took about 5-6 weeks. I hired a contractor and worked with him doing a lot of 'dirty work' myself. That certainly helped. I would have NEVER gotten it done that quickly if I would have tried to do it all myself. dunragit 10-23-07, 06:36 PM I know what you mean about the long days. :) I think you have enough room to do what you propose. I have a guy coming this weekend to start to replace the wall with the garage door in it. The power outlet for the garage door I can use for the projector. I am going to rip the sheet rock off and insulate and them build another 2x4 wall infront of the old one. This will make the wall flush with the 8" concrete block stem wall. Sounds like a good plan and a great start to the project. You should be sure to document as much of the process as you can with pictures. A digital camera will certainly be handy. Are you going to be doing most of the work yourself? dunragit 10-23-07, 06:53 PM I intend to. I think 8 inches of insulation in the walls should be plenty. I just needed to get the outside wall completed and I didn't know what to support. Oh well. I live on 2 acres so I don't care about the neighbours hearing the sound and the bedrooms are at the other end of the house. This is a new house to me (built in 1915) and they oversized the central heat and air, so all I need done there is duct work. I needed to get the computers out of the livingroom or I would have made this a dedicated room. |
