View Full Version : Help Determining Bad Sub!?

This is a tough one: about 2 years ago I bought a Paradigm PW2100 sub, used, but in great shape. Let's just skip all the excuses, but after visually inspecting the thing and all seeming well, it has sat in the box until last night. I fired it up for the first time in my new dedicated room and was horrified; bass was "flappy" and "honky". It was really un-listenable until I turned the level and crossover to be just barely audible, but even then, occasionally, there would be a low rumble from the soundtrack that would set it a flappin'.

Now...my room isn't completed (no sheetrock, no carpet), and my receiver isn't the best (Marantz SR4500, getting ready to upgrade to an Onkyo 705 or 805), but I'm wondering if my room and equipment just need a little tweaking or did I get a "blown" or bad sub, oh so many years ago.

Is there anything I can do to test the functionality of my unit?
