Last night my VP4001 which has about 52 hours on it over a 3.5 week period started to flicker. This has me a bit nervous. Anyone else getting a flicker?

I googled and came up with this:

http://ultimateavmag.com/videoprojec...lp/index1.html

Which doesn't talk exactly about the VP4001, but does describe what I experiened perfectly.

Anyone else have this issue? I know this can mean that the bulb is going bad, but not with something this new? Any other suggestions?

Not sure of the exact description, but most times flicker is an at least some what normal thing that hits many lamps at a certain point in their life cycle.

Generally it calms down with additional use.

Simply stated the element in the bullb is burning unevenly. Change your lamp mode from Economy to Normal and run it there for several hours to burn off those uneven edges.

This seems to work for simple flicker problems. If not, you have a bad bulb or bad ballast/voltage regulation.

Thank you for this advice. I feel a little better knowing that there might be a simple fix for the problem. Would I avoid this issue by running the projector in normal mode all of the time? I know that this will shorten the life of the bulb to an extent (at least in theory), but if it means a trouble free 3000 hours as oppsed to a troubled 4000 hours.....I'd go with the 3000 hours.

There are those who always use Normal mode and won't use Economy but it's up to you. Run it for a week on Normal, then switch back to Economy and see how long it will work. Some bulbs just need to be broken in apparently.

I don't think that using high vs low mode makes a difference as far as flicker not developing. It's when the anode and cathode of the lamp develop 2 equidistant points that flicker develops. I've found that as little as 20 to 30 minutes in the opposite brightness mode usually cures the problem.

Well putting it in normal mode seems to have cured the problem.

Thanks guys.
