View Full Version : What's replacing the a3000 series Sony's? dnbois56 10-24-07, 03:17 PM Just curious if anyone has heard anything about what is going to replace these a3000's that seem to be heavily discounted everywhere I look right now? travon802 10-24-07, 04:25 PM I could've sworn the a3000's were less than 2 months old... They're discounted because that's the natural progression for any consumer electronics product nowadays. Legendbyname 10-24-07, 04:41 PM Yeah they just came out in August. Most retailers didn't have them until last month. Seems more to me that they are trying to compete more against the flat panel market since RPTV's are doing worse and worse sales wise. KillaB3E 10-24-07, 07:41 PM I'm planning to get one of these soon, our house will be closing end of Nov. / early December. I can't wait!!! dnbois56 10-24-07, 08:27 PM I guess I'm just very surprised at how much these sets (sxrd's) have fallen in price. I still have the 55a2020 and it's the best set I've ever owned bar none. Ahhh, a4000's ??? Gruber22 10-25-07, 09:13 AM a3030 Valnar 10-25-07, 01:42 PM A better question is when, not what. dnbois56 10-25-07, 04:08 PM I'm also curious about what improvements can be made at this point to the technology. I love my a2020 but know how the a3000 improves upon it. I feel like I can sit thru this step up as I don't see a huge difference but would probably be ready to make my next tradeup in sets when the next version comes out. jwittenmyer 10-25-07, 04:18 PM Since the A3000 just started shipping at the beginning of October, I wouldn't expect the replacement until next summer at the earliest. The price is going down because people don't want RPTVs anymore. They want the sexiness of Plasma or LCD. My honest opinion is that there won't be a replacement for the A3000. Sony will just discontinue the line next fall and stop making RPTVs all together. mr. wally 10-25-07, 04:31 PM don't be surprised if there is no new model for the a series. looks like sonys dumping the xbr line so the a line may be next. really too bad. sony perfected this great technology with the best pq per buck and stupid consumers only want flat panels with inferior pq. AMartin56 10-25-07, 05:17 PM Well I wouldn't say perfected due to my recent issues, but I will say that large screen flat panels will have to have a quite a price drop before I would consider them as an alternative to a RPTV. Both the a3000 series and the flat panels work well for most people. Comparing a KDL-52W3000 at $3,499.99 versus a KDS-50A3000 for $1799.99 shows it will be some time before anything happens. (sonystyle prices) I'm still amazed at the outrageous price ($32,999.99) of the KDL-70XBR3 flat panel. Sony needs to hustle with the KDS-Z70XBR5 release (says spring 2008). joevfx 10-25-07, 06:04 PM Just curious if anyone has heard anything about what is going to replace these a3000's that seem to be heavily discounted everywhere I look right now? this discount is not because its beign replaces, it just came out early september. Sony is just realizing that LCDs are the way to go and are focusing on them. You wont see another RP from Sony ( besides the XBR5) untill august of 2008. and thats if this series is not the last Sony RPs ever. Valnar 10-25-07, 06:09 PM I do believe the SXRD is the best RPTV picture quality, and beats average LCD's and Plasmas that cost a lot more. It takes something like the Pioneer Kuro to come along and blow everything else out of the water. Fortunately (or unfortunately), they are so darn expensive, that the likes of me and the target audience for the SXRD has nothing to worry about for awhile. Given a Pioneer Kuro Plasma vs SXRD for the same price? I'd own the Pioneer. Until that time comes, I hope Sony doesn't do anything foolish and discontinue the line. Robert SRTpusher 10-25-07, 08:51 PM i was telling my coworkers about this set and most were like "why didn't you get a plasma?" they referred to it as though it were a console tv. rpj is just not "hip" to the ipod owning, latte drinking, suv driving crowd who prefer style and appearence over performance and functionality. i however, like a good picture and $$ in my pocket. arbitrage000 11-04-07, 10:37 PM Yah, its sad that this is probably the last of the RPTVs because I've had my 50A2000 for 1year now and its still just an amazing TV. I've yet to see a flat LCD that looks better and I also agree I would need to buy a Pioneer Plasma to get the same PQ. The A3000 isn't going to be sold in Canada, so its probably the last of the Aseries for the US. The XBR5 will be sold in Canada, and if I can't get myself to drive over the border and get an 60A3000 then I'll look into the XBR5 when it comes to the end of its lifecycle and again probably the end of all Sony SXRD RPTVs:( If and when its officially confirmed that their will be no more RPTVs then I'll snap up the A3000 or XBR5 depending on what prices they are at and how much hassle it will be to go to the US and bring back a 60"TV:D Jay_Davis 11-05-07, 01:11 PM I do believe the SXRD is the best RPTV picture quality, and beats average LCD's and Plasmas that cost a lot more.
