View Full Version : PT-AX100U dos display problem, need help.
mk4umha 10-24-07, 05:54 PM Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone else has problems going with the PT-AX100U displaying the BIOS screen or DOS Screen. What happens is when I first turn on the computer i see the memory counting and after that it's all blank until i get to the windows XP screen loading screen. This is a pain because I have to bring a monitor over to the PC if I need to reinstall and go to DOS etc.
I have that problem with my Nvidia 6600GT and the 8800GTS. is it an Nvidia problem?

It's neither you PJ/TV/Monitor nor you Video card problem. Bios Post Sequence is normal, you can turn it off via mobo bios setup to display whatever your manufacturer logo instead... but it will going though the same blank screen boot up sequence + bios post. It's even longer if you have an external raid controller.
This is a pain because I have to bring a monitor over to the PC if I need to reinstall and go to DOS etc.
what do you mean by that?
mk4umha 10-24-07, 08:36 PM Hi, if I have to boot to dos to redo my boot drive or setup a multi boot menu in linux, I can never see it unless the computer is plugged into a monitor instead of the projector.
The wierd thing is, if I use the projector, I can see the memory counting and immediately after that, it's a blue screen all the way till the windows XP loading screen pops up.
Between those two screens that appear when using the projector, there's supposed to be RAID setup information and the multiboot menu to select which OS you want to get into. obviously, if i cant see the multiboot menu, i can't select the other OS.
I hope that makes sense.
zeroendless 10-25-07, 10:13 AM I hope that makes sense.
Now it makes sense what your problem is.
So you multiboot menu doesn't show up at boot up and you seen the blue sreen instead. Blue screen could be monitor screen out of sync, pj is not able to resolve the signal while booting the os selection menu. You have VGA in or hdmi for pc source? Try Vga.
Or a blind selection, if the blue screen is part of the selection sequence that doesn't show up on screen. The keyboard or mouse should be still working.
mk4umha 10-25-07, 10:39 AM OK, i guess it's going out of sync for some reason. I have 2 systems, one outputs DVI to VGA, the other outputs DVI to HDMI and both do the same thing.
I know blind selection works but it is annoying if I boot into linux and need to boot into the command line mode I need to hook the monitor up. Is there anyway to fix this? I don't understand why it doesnt go out of sync at the memory counting screen.
Thanks!

So it's the os selection on boot sequence that's not showing or linux command line as well? :)
I don't know the answer to it, i didn't have the same dilemma having to pick something off boot menu on my system.
mk4umha 10-25-07, 12:33 PM Yea, when you're trying to configure the X server you cant be in a GUI so you have to boot to the command line interface and for some reason it blanks out on the projector when I do that.
It could be that the videocard doesnt detect the projector?
JojoToto 10-27-07, 10:26 AM I just got the ax200 yesterday, and I have the exact same.
With my old ae700, I was able to install XP with the ae700. Later with dual boot, I was able to see the OS selection screen.
Now with the ax200, all of that is blank. I have to guess when the OS selection screen comes up so that I can pick the right boot.
I'm using a DVI to HDMI connection.
Maybe by switching to ax200, my htpc does not know which DVI output is the main one anymore. I think when a PC has a dual monitor, only one shows the DOS OS isn't it?
Tonight I will plug the cable to the other DVI slot to see if it works.
mk4umha 10-27-07, 01:04 PM Which video card do you have?
Both my computers use the Nvidia chipset and they both have dual output. I wonder if there are new firmware for the nvidia cards that will fix this problem.

I have the ASUS 8800GTS 640MB.
I could see everything from start with the AE700. I basically unplug the video cable from the ae700 and plug it to the ax200, and I lost the bios screen.
I think with the ae700 I had to switch back and forth between the 2 DVI ports several times before the graphics card set the PJ as the main display (or it may be luck).
hashwood 11-29-07, 07:21 PM if you have two dvi outputs on the Nvidia card, maybe you can try to put the PJ in the primary.
I managed ax200 to show dos only on VGA connector.

Yep, i've tried that and it still doesn't work. I have no other idea to fix this problem.
Heehee, DOS. just use a simple small monitor for such things. I mean who needs to be in their bios that much that they need to make an issue out of it over a projector?
chrisbell 12-01-07, 10:15 PM Same with me, but I can't see _anything_ on the projector unless i'm in a higher resolution (X or Windows). This is on PT-AX100U, VGA in with a older GeForce4 MX440. I've tried another NVidia card, with the same results.
Overall, I'm happy, but won't ever buy another Panasonic because of this BS.
hashwood 12-08-07, 02:07 PM to solve this problem you need to change the HDMI EDID from Normal to PC, in the engineering menu.
To enter the menu, do the following:
With PJ already ON, do: POWER, RIGHT, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, ENTER
or
Bring up the PJ menu, put your cursor on the INPUT GUIDE option, and hold the 'OK' button on your remote for 5 seconds.
then it will show everything in DOS, even the BIOS
don't understand why panasonic didn't include that option in the normal menu.
