I enjoy reading the information here on the forum and on other forums. Based on that I have started as a beginner in learning to calibrate and have gotten my own measurement equipment. Film and film reproduction is my hobby and have no intention to take it beyond that level, but it sure is a fun and interesting hobby.

So a question to you more experienced calibrators there. Do you have recommended textbook readings in the subject? What is the basic literature in the field?

I am an engineer (in the color of black (OIL)) and are not afraid of equation and scientific language, so im interested in the basic educational books not the “popular science” articles.

Anyone that can help my with my plenum list :- )

Here's a link to a good resource that Widescreen Review published, titled: 'Imaging Science Theatre 2000: Everything You Wanted To Know About Video But Were Afraid To Ask' It's almost 400 pages of foundational information in the field of imaging science, display industry standards and calibration. http://cinemaquestinc.com/isf-mag.htm

Dr. Ramond Soneira's series of articles about display technologies also has a lot of good detail about display types and video signals: http://displaymate.com/shootout.html .

Joe Kane Productions' site is a good resource as well: http://www.videoessentials.com/ .

As for actual calibration, in addition to what George posted see also the FAQ thread here which has a lot of good information, and also the info found at the keohisite:

http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/experttips/panelofexperts.html

In the CRT forum is also Guy Kuo's Holy Focus guide, required reading for any CRT projection systems.

Beyond that, Poynton's book, HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces is *THE* textbook for digital video. It is not about calibration per se, but lays out all the fundamentals of the entire video system. No other text compares with its excellence IMO.
