View Full Version : GH III, Have We Forgotten??

People, this is the best part of this season. So many great games come out that others get lost in the shuffle. I personally am a PS3 owner since launch day. I have played them all (gamefly rocks).

I also picked up an USB to PS2 female adapter to play GH I and GH II on my PS3 and with the progressive scan it looks HD.

Anyway anyway, GH III will be available this SUNDAY. This is probably the biggest thing to happen to PS3 since R+C ummm well yesterday! haha.....

There isnt a person out there who has played GH and has not liked it. The replay value on that game is endless.

Anyway, just wanted to start a thread in anticipation of all of us who plan on getting it Sunday (or midnight on sat for the hardcore fans).

P.S. R+C is amaaaazing....

I am going to pick it up. I have never played a GH game until recently on PS2 and I love it. But I was reading, where can you get a 2nd controller? I'd want to get one for friends who come over because I would think 1 player is not that great. But according to the official forums there are no plans to sell a stand alone controller? Are there 3rd party ones available at launch?

I have Frequency, Amplitude, GH1, GH2, and GH Rocks the 80's, and I really like these games. I still think that Frequency is the best of the bunch as a game (though I don't like the song selection as much).

However, I have to say I'm quite miffed at Activision these days. First they give no solution that totally works for playing GH1 and GH2 on the PS3. Then they say they'll release GH3 at $100, which is a little steap. Then they give the PS3 version a stupid dongle. (Grrrr....) Then they say that the GH3 guitar won't work with GH1 or GH2 when played in emulation on a PS3 (which TOTALLY sucks). Then they give a demo to 360 users but not PS3 users (we should be able to use our PS2 guitars).

I'm starting to think I won't be getting GH3 soon. I'll probably cave in eventually, but I'll try to resist for a while at least...

I bought an adapter that has an USB on one end and a female PS2 on the other. It works great I picked it up an family owned Video Game store in NJ called Video Game World.

Anyway, there will be wireless ones availble very soon after launch and it is 100 times better playing vs people live. remember you can play online too.

I'm picking mine up from gamestop either midnight (if I can stay up, yes 37 is old, but I hope Im not the oldest on this forum) or I'll pick it up on Sunday am when they open.

The problem I have is that it's one of my kids birthday on monday. Im not sure if we will play/open it on sat/sunday or wait to give it as a gift.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Has anyone heard about Downloadable songs for GHIII? I thought Rockband was going to be doing it, but it seems like a no-brainer for GHIII as well...

Although I love your enthusiasm, i've tried the adapter (pelican) and it was straight up garbage especially if are used to "5-starring" the songs on expert. The only way to truely play GHI and II is on the PS2.

On to GHIII. My local GS will be doing the midnight release. Want to pick up a 2nd guitar but will wait for Rockband on the 20th.

I'm holding out for RockBand. At least I think it's the way I wanna go. Love the drums. And to me, RB is more suitable for when you've got a bunch of friends over, and they all want to play. Plus, I think it's got a better layout than GH3...the on-screen fret boards look cooler. Or maybe they're exactly the same in both games, for all I know! :p

Dude, I totally agree with you. Although I went out on my own and bought the adapter for the PS3 which was only 15 bucks, But If I do NOT want to switch guitars every time I want to go back and play GH1 or GH2.

There might be a firmware update to correct this, because I know the new DualShock 3's are going to work for PS2 titles.

I dont have experience with the Pelican. This adapter I have is straight from Japan. It wasnt even in english. I wish I kept the box so I could of showed it to you. But, they have all sorts of Japanese stuff there. I would look online if your still interested but with GHIII coming this weekend, I dont know if its worth it anymore.

I never 'got' Guitar Hero. I like Amplitude one heck of a lot, though. I think one of the reasons I don't 'get' GH is because I am/was a guitar player myself and would probably feel lost with only a few buttons on the end of the tiny little guitar...LOL.

I'm a guitar player, too, and GH has never been a problem for me. Maybe because I'm not a very good guitar player. :p Actually, instantpop, I think you might find it quite...addictive. You know you're not really playing a guitar, but there's just something about hitting those little coloured buttons exactly when you should be hitting them. Gets into my brain almost instantly.

Well, being a fellow guitar player, and having some friends that are way better than me on a guitar, generally I think you'll still enjoy. It's completely different, some of the chord transitions are actually harder in GH games than on a real guitar, but there are tons of things that are over simplified as well.

You have to go into it knowing its a game, and not a guitar simulator. I have a blast on it, even when my non-guitar playing friends beat my ass in it.

Yeah, that pretty much killed any chance of me getting Rock Band. I'm not spending $170 on myself right before the XMas season to get a drumset and microphone that won't be used anytime soon.

14. Which consoles will there be stand alone guitar controllers available for purchase at launch for GH3?

PS2 is the only platform that you will be able to purchase a separate guitar controller for. At this time, we do not have an eta or pricing info for all of the other consoles.

You could always just buy another bundle and return the game to walmart for credit towards another game, that would actually make the guitar only 40$.... I preordered this off redoctane's site, as they have a few bonus things and i probably won't get a chance to play it this sunday anyways, i'm really excited for it though, but not as excited as i am for rock band.

I dont think you can return the game as its UPC knows its a bundle. BTW you cant preorder the PS3 bundle form Best Buy (they dont expect to get alot of PS3 bundles in, so its first come first serve) thats what BB corporate told me.

RedOctane Exclusive Pre-Order Promotional Items Include:
(1) Guitar Hero Dual Gig Bag (if you actually use this, your a loser)
(1) Guitar Hero Key Chain (again refer to # 1)
(1) Guitar Hero Designer 2" Wide Guitar Strap** (only cool add) but sucks to have to wait for it to ship to your house after its relase date) not worth it

Order directly from RedOctane, as they are give the above things free. Plus free shipping and no taxes. As a side note, the bag I think is actually a very good idea, as frequently I have taken the guitar to my friends house or vica versa and carrying it open, I have the fear of a button being squashed, or the strum bar being broken. The bag will be used frequently. The wider strp I think is also a good idea, if anything an extra strap.

Your complaint doesn't make too much sense to me. GH3 controllers are ocnfirmed to work with Rock Band. The Rock Band package comes with a guitar. So basically, if you were going to buy GH3 anyway, by the time Rock band gets here you would have 2 guitars, drums, and a mic for just buying each bundle. You won't even need to buy another guitar. GH3 is the one you might need to buy an extra guitar for, since we don't know if they are going to allow the RB guitar to work with their game.

Again, unfortunately because my friends (local and on-line (majority) have the 360 version PLUS I have the guitar for GH II for Xbox, I am getting the Xbox version, so now I will have 2 guitars and can play on-line with friends. The only reason I would consider the PS3 version is if it has lossless audio and coded 7.1 out.

To the folks with working adapters, a few questions:

1) What are the brands of the adapters you're using to play GH and GHII on the PS3? The consensus here seems to be that Pelican adapters suck a fat one.

2) Do you play on a wireless or wired guitar (I'm curious because I've only got the wireless kind)?

3) What difficulty are you playing on - can you confirm that they'll work well on expert?

Thanks - I've been dying to just move my PS2 out of it's spot on the floor in front of my entertainment center, but I've been unable find any solid information that would allow me to rock on the newer system.

I'd always heard that the adapters didn't work very well (particularly for hammer-ons and pull-offs). Are the adapters simply "passable," or are they just as good as the direct PS2 connections?

I'm also a five-star expert player (not to brag, but just to clarify the precision of the adapter) and would also love to make a full switch over to my PS3. The only reason my PS2 is still hooked up is for GH1&2. Oh, and I have both a wired and a wireless guitar controller.

Have you tried Frequency? My friends and I both like Frequency better than Amplitude. While Amplitude has a snazzier look to it, the sense of actually playing your particular music track is much much stronger in Frequency. We just played both games back to back the other night, and the difference is huge.

Any word on whether a PS2 Guitar Hero guitar will work (via adapter) with Rockband on PS3?

We already have heard that the PS3's GH3 guitar won't work with the PS2 versions of GH1/2 (the game), and presumably the reverse is true: that the PS2 guitars won't work with GH3 (for PS3 via adapter). But I haven't heard anything about using the PS2 guitars for the PS3 version of Rockband.

It'd be silly to buy more guitars (I've got two already), so either these things work with the new games or I don't buy the new games. It's to these developers' advantage to work this out.

360, for achievements and use with the previous explorer wired guitar.

As for the gig bag free from Red Octane, I too thought it would be lame with my past order from RO... but found that it's much nicer storing the guitar controller in the bag than having it laying around. Plus, it's very handy for taking controllers out of the house.
