I don't know if anyone has this problem and what the cause of (i'm trying to work on it with Miglia, but hope i can resolve it sooner rather than later):

equipment:
Miglia Mini HD
Powermac G5 dual
3 gb RAM

software:
EyeTV 2.5

other:
Comcast cable

problem:
twice in a row now, i've had two recording glitch on me. Monday, when i recorded Heroes, i checked afterward and got a 45 minute recording when it should have been 1:00 or 1:01. when i replayed the recording, it looked like the first 25 minutes or so was "somewhat jibberish" as if it was recorded at 1.5 speed or something with missing frames and clipped audio...after this, the rest of the recording seemed fine. my recording last night of Bionic Woman had the same sort of problem (although i haven't had time to inspect in detail to see where and when it glitched) but the hour long recording ended up being only 32 minutes long!

in both cases, fortunately, i watched the shows live on my TV where i saw zero problems (so i'm doubtful this is a cable issue).

i wrote Miglia after the first occurence and the suggestion i received this morning was to try to downgrade to Elgato2.3.3. i'll do that this weekend when i have time, but it seems a bit iffy a solution considering thigns worked fine until this monday. (in fact, prior to Monday's recording of Heroes, Prison Break recorded its full hour worth of material just fine).

any thoughts/comments/common experiences/suggestions?

thanks!

Are you sure you're getting those channels in the clear? Can you watch them live tuned through the Miglia?

does this mean you've been recording things just fine for months already and then all of a sudden you started experiencing this w/ 2.5 or are you a new user and these are your first recordings?

thanks for responding chef: sorry if i wasn't clear ...

1. yes, this channel is in the clear. (NBC network)
2. yes, i have been using the Miglia unit fine since last December and also 2.5 has worked fine until this Monday (i think 2.5 has been out for...1 month?)

OK, since you're an experienced user, know you set the thing up properly and know 2.5 worked, I wouldn't rule out your local Comcast outfit messing with the flags, when they make changes in their lineup or re-assign channels, they often do it at the beginning of the week. Have they added any HD channels recently? Moved anything around? You may want to check in with your local HDTV discussion thread to see if anything is up with your neighbors as well. It also doesn't hurt if you have another QAM device to record from just to isolate it as a Miglia/EyeTV problem. (My LG 3410A comes in very handy for this.)

OK, so you verified you can watch it live through the Miglia? (Not just live through the TV's own tuner.) What I'm getting at is you have to try to pin the problem down to something Comcast has done and/or rule out a hardware problem with the device itself before you can be sure it's a software or guide issue.

When you say:

when i replayed the recording, it looked like the first 25 minutes or so was "somewhat jibberish" as if it was recorded at 1.5 speed or something with missing frames and clipped audio

that is what an encrypted or mis-flagged show can look like sometimes, broken audio, lots of frame skips, etc. That's happened to me with my D-VHS deck when Comcast has screwed around with the flags.

Where is your archive, where do you record to?

- i unfortunately don't have another QAM tuner. :( (my other TV gets its signal via a Comcast supplied box)

- no, channels haven't moved around (although they will next month)...

- i record onto an internal 320 gb drive on my Mac desktop (dual G5, plenty of horsepower)

yeah: could be a Comcast issued, but hard to tell. the comcast forum folks claim that NBC occasionally has glitches on people's Tivos, so maybe.

but i ran two tests yesterday which gave me now know new info: i recorded two NBC prime time shows and they were just fine...so maybe it is an intermittent problem with NBC/Comcast? who knows...

the Miglia folks said to reinstall the latest 2.5 software again and give it a whirl . they didn't think it was Miglia hardware related. :p
