Hi all.

I'm very happy with my purchase of the Harmony 890 remote. Discrete commands are great. But I have one issue with it regarding my Sony 60A3000 television.

I found this interesting link that offers just about any discrete code one can think of for a Sony TV with Philips Pronto, ProntoPRO, Marantz RC5000, RC5200 & RC9200, Onkyo CHAD or Yamaha RAV-2000 here (http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/files/rcfiles.cgi?area=pronto&db=discrete&br=sony&dv=television&fc=).

Some codes I didn't see, though, are discrete commands to change the "picture" configuration to vivid, cinema, custom, etc. (I see the aspect ratio button is well represented, with zoom, wide zoom, and full, all there.)

I am plugging all my HDMI and component cords into one receiver, and some of the equipment has different brightness/sharpness/tint. So having a the "custom" picture display used at all times is counterproductive. It'd be great if I could just permanently change each of the levels on my Sony 60A3000 for vivid, cinema, custom, and have those "picture" options automatically changed when I go to a different input on the receiver. So ideally "vivid" would get its own discrete command, along with "custom" and "cinema."

Is this possible? I posted a post similar to this at remotecentral (as some posters in other AVS threads indicate to do) but no responses. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Contact Logitech, they should be able to program those custom codes for you if you ask.

On the same note, my father and brother have a Sony SXRD and I find the standard picture modes (Vivid, Standard, etc.) to be very inaccurate and in general to be bad. My suggestion is to especially avoid Vivid like the plague and use a calibration DVD like Digital Video Essentials to calibrate your picture.

Thanks for the reply, tokerblue. I really appreciate it.

I did as you suggested. Using the Harmony 890 software, I sent Logitech an email requesting that they add the discrete commands. Unfortunately, I am not very optimistic given the comments on this thread (http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-harmony/thread.cgi?3758,1#1) which reads like this issue has been requested for some time.

I'll see where this leads... Thanks again.

Just something to note...Logitech (or any other universal remote company) can't manufacture discrete codes out of thin air. They generally have to be provided by the manufacturer of the device (ie Sony) if they are available at all. It's quite likely Sony doesn't have discretes available for picture modes.
