asterion 10-25-07, 08:26 PM Did anyone tell the Rockies that the DH rules no longer require the DH to bat 9th?
ccotenj 10-25-07, 08:42 PM i was wondering about that too (batting the dh 9th again)... EVERYONE in their lineup is a better hitter than their best hitter sitting on the bench?
pq pretty good tonight again, maybe not quite as good as last night, but hard to tell... grass swimming a bit... audio good as always... game started (here at least) without the scoreline across the top... thought maybe fox had caught on we didn't need it, but alas, it appeared... :(
hope the sox brought their hitting shoes again tonight.
comcast south jersey.
ps. c'mon someone steal a base darnit! we want tacos!!!! :D
More problems with the Fox Box, is this the same unit they were having problems with last series.
Jeremy W 10-25-07, 09:06 PM Interesting that they can do the Fox Box from LA. Isn't technology great?
Dvmccollum 10-25-07, 09:10 PM After severe audio and video problems in the last half inning, Fox has now turned to an SD feed. This is inexcusable in a World Series game.

Where are you? I'm in Hartford, CT OTA, no audio, no video problems here... HD looks on par with Fox's quality.

Unfortunately there is no back up path for pitch speeds. So the LA inserted Fox Box had no pitch speeds.
tvpaint 10-25-07, 09:14 PM the foxbox is a windows based chyron device which appears to have carbon interface "issues"
Dvmccollum 10-25-07, 09:14 PM I'm in Boulder, CO watching via comcast. They just switched back to the HD feed a few moments ago.

Sounds like a local issue, no problems here in Detroit.
tvpaint 10-25-07, 09:15 PM went over to the encoder racks and they showed no errors
on the outbound paths
ccotenj 10-25-07, 09:18 PM no video problems here... hd the whole way...
i like the way you put that tvpaint... "carbon interface issues"... :)
skyehill 10-25-07, 09:24 PM The usual FOX crapfest. No surprises.

Is that a reference to OS X?
ccotenj 10-25-07, 09:50 PM Tacos!!!!!! :D
Jeremy W 10-25-07, 09:54 PM Tacos!!!!!! :D
I love how it's from 2-5PM, so that most people are at work and can't take advantage. I'll be leaving work to go get my free taco! :D
asterion 10-25-07, 09:56 PM Tacos!!!!!! :D"Baby let's make a run for the border, I've got a hunger only tacos can stop."
I used to say that there was a Simpsons quote for everything. While I still think that's true, I've got to say that South Park is starting to catch up.
I probably should say something constructive. I'd say it looks about the same as always.
Is Chris Myers the only field reporter allowed on camera, does Ken Rosenthal get on face time.
debsman 10-25-07, 10:33 PM HD feed gone here in West Palm Beach, FL...been gone for about 10 minutes. Is this a local issue or nationwide?

local again... all good here in the twd...
There is absolutely no reason to interview the COO of Taco Bell during the middle of the game, I don't care what they are giving away.
wdkerbow 10-25-07, 10:43 PM HD Feed from Suddenlink Cable in Cental Texas on KTBC-HD. PQ is good. No issues with audio. No swimming grass. Some quick white flashing horizontal lines across the outfield on those long shots from that high camera above and behind the plate.

I'm sure Taco Bell provided Fox with a few rea$on$ to do it...

"interview"? that wasn't an "interview". it was a "commercial".
you had to know it was coming though... :(
debsman 10-25-07, 10:51 PM just called my local station...maybe these yahoos will get it right. doubt it tho
So are people still seeing the "noise" thats been associated with the FOX games. I still see "noise" on any of the green walls, especially the one behind the plate.
Close up shots look good, main field cam looks terrible on FOX Boston and Seattle.

Yep.

I know it was a commercial and not a real interview, I just don't think it belongs there.

It belongs there just as much as the constant prolonged shots of the DirecTV blimp do.

Blimp Shots, billboards, virtual ads I have no problem with. A full screen "interview" during the game I have a problem with, I just don't think it looks good and really does not add much value for Taco Bell. A quick full screen graphic with details of the offer I think would be more effective and show more respect for the game being televised.
E-A-G-L-E-S 10-25-07, 11:30 PM If they would 'please' stop showing the sox bullpen and playing the audio of their 'band' that would be 'fantastic' for my ears.

oh yea, i agree with you... i thought that would come through in my post... it definitely didn't belong there...
wdkerbow 10-25-07, 11:51 PM OK, James Taylor singing the National Anthem was OK, but I could have done without McCarver referencing Neil Diamond... now we have to listen to the actual song.... ugh...
draposo 10-25-07, 11:52 PM When they show the batter live and you get the "Billboard" add on the left and the one on the right is blank (green) ... does that look noisy (grainy) to anyone?
wdkerbow 10-25-07, 11:58 PM ^^ very slightly... I have to strain to look to see it. It's probably because of the green screen visual effect for that camera.. ?
draposo 10-26-07, 12:01 AM Thanks David ... I see it quite a bit although not as bad as some nights. I think I have an electrical problem in my house and that is just one of the symptoms. Hopefully that goes away when I fix my electric runs (old ungrounded circuit)
Whoa, anyone else see the major lip sync problems with the interview of Papelbon?
skyehill 10-26-07, 12:30 AM OK, James Taylor singing the National Anthem was OK, but I could have done without McCarver referencing Neil Diamond... now we have to listen to the actual song.... ugh...
One of the greatest traditions at Fenway. You don't have to like the song to love the atmosphere in Fenway when the entire crowd sings together. Great stuff.
wdkerbow 10-26-07, 12:34 AM Didn't realize it was a tradition. My bad.
davemcs 10-26-07, 07:44 AM Still waiting for FOX to throw the red Terminator eyes in the middle of a key play!
Game 2 looked great on TWC in Maine. In fact, all of the channels looked great the last 2 nights when I scanned. ........ I wonder if those blankety blanks "juiced" the system during the series. (I've just got to have conspiracy of some sort.)
Get rid of fox box forever.
Get rid of fox box forever.
Not going to happen.
bphisig 10-26-07, 05:35 PM What is the deal with all the "noise" that is on the fox broadcasts? I only notice this with fox baseball and nothing else, ever. What gives?
mikemikeb 10-26-07, 09:56 PM Still waiting for FOX to throw the red Terminator eyes in the middle of a key play! They don't have the technology to do that live, yet. Give them a few years....
What is the deal with all the "noise" that is on the fox broadcasts? I only notice this with fox baseball and nothing else, ever. What gives? They're using Thomson Grass Valley cameras instead of some other brand (like Sony, JVC or Panasonic).
Where's foxeng to defend the poor PQ that FOX pushes out durning all sporting events?
I see grain everywhere. Even on close ups, around both pitchers heads!
Don't forget about Sunday NFL with the grass that comes alive!
They're using Thomson Grass Valley cameras instead of some other brand (like Sony, JVC or Panasonic).
The games in Boston have been produced from GCV Yankee Clipper which has Sony cameras. The noise in the picture has nothing to do with what brand of camera being used. It is being introduced somewhere else in the transmission chain. Also Fox is using quite a few slo-mo units in which some noise can be seen, however, that is to be expected when using such units under these conditions.

Looking REAL hard, I was, once in a great while, able to spot some small, small amount of noise in these last two games in Boston, but I think the picture was really great. If you are seeing something else, the problem for you has to be local.
bphisig 10-27-07, 07:53 PM If I turn the noise reduction setting on my set to "high" the problem almost goes away, but picture detail suffers some because of it. For what it's worth, I ONLY see this problem on Fox baseball telecasts. I think I have seen it a couple times on Lost too I suppose.
