Hey guys, I have a Samsung HLT5075S DLP and I am having a serious problem with it. It is calibrated and I am using "movie" mode. Dynamic C, black adjust are both off. In addition, enhanced black level is off as well on my hd-a2 hd dvd player. However, when I am watching a dark scene, sometimes the deep black lightens up considerably, then will go back to deep black. This generally happens during very dark scenes when there is little on the screen. (dungeons etc). However, i have been able to recreate 100% of the time during credits. with a white credit on the screen the surrounding black is deep, when it goes away and there is nothing, the black lightens very much so and you can horizontal scan lines, then when the next credit appears, it goes back to deep black. I believe this problem goes away when you set to "standard" mode. Any ideas? What should I do? Should I be using standard mode anyway? Thanks for any ideas

I have a HL-T5676S and never noticed it because I run the Standard mode all the time. The standard mode is pretty good and covers all kinds of viewing (sports, broadcast TV, movies) quite well.

Does the entire screen black color change or can you spot this on the edges only? You may be seeing the bands of the screen itself (which are visible when the TV is off and room is bright).

Thanks for the quick response, no the entire screen will lighten considerably. Not just when there is nothing on (but that is the easiest to recreate), but also when the image is a dark scene without much light on the screen. It is outrageously distracting and I would say the screen lightens a good 25%-50%. I may not be explaining it all that well but it almost as if the tv is like "well hell, there is nothing on the screen to display, might as well not bother to display video black"

My crazy train of thought has derailed. Thanks.

Please post if you find an answer. I'm thinking about min/max settings of brightness/contrast of Dynamic Contrast somewhere in service menu or somewhere else........

Isn't that the DNIe feature that does it? Did you try turning it off?

yeah DNIe is most certainly off. I talked to samsung on the phone and they are sending a tech over. Upon further testing it does NOT happen on HDMI port 2, so they think its a problem with just port 1. Ill let you guys know

This could be internal reflection. My four year old DLP gets this whenever the internal mirror gets dirty and hazy after a year or two. Cleaning the mirror then corrects the problem and also makes the DLP appear a it was brand new.
