I hear people talking about how BR won but thinking back when the BOGO deal at CC for HD DVD's (which wasnt suppose to happen) they came up as BR disc sales. Thats what I seen when the cashier rang me out.

I support both so I could care who wins what week. But did thats sales count towards BR sales and get counted in the #'s??

Just wondering.

Sorry if this has been talked about already.

I doubt it. It goes by SKU.

Robert Spalding

exactly, a SKU is still a SKU, within the barcode scanned there are categories listed and one of them is DVD:HDVD...the other is DVD:Bluray

Thanks guys I was just wondering thats all.

I thought it was a great idea by Blu Ray to do the Bogo to compete with transformers. Now lets hope HD DVD does that when SP3 comes out.

No. When I finally found a CC store doing the BOGO, the cashier entered promo code 02 to make an HD DVD and Blu-ray disc ring up half price.
He had to enter the promo code 02 for each disc I purchased.

See thats why I asked. My CC didnt enter any code it came right up saying BR sale or something BR everytime I bought HD disc on all the HD DVD's I bought.

I bought 10 HD DVD's and no blu Ray and it rang up BR something

Thats why I was wondering..

ON my reciept the same code appers before all the HD DVS' or BR's were rang up.

Code 3241B

My guess would be their internal system might be using that code and nothing more. Frequently, retail outlets use an authorization code for many things to allow cashiers to make price changes. That might be all that code is.

You're right, this question didn't need to be asked, but it's clear the OP was just curious and asking a harmless question.

It's true. I bought Knocked Up on HD DVD last week and it rang up as socks. Good thing the cashier caught the mistake.

Just curious.
Can you post a copy of said receipt ?I think they meant that the HD DVDs registered as Blu-ray as in they qualified for the deal that was supposed to be Blu-ray only.

It seems that OP is saying that his and possibly others HD DVD purchases rang up as Blu-ray, thus counting as Blu-ray sales for the Nielson numbers.

I'm not sure how they count the Nielson sales but I assume they look at the titles and format sold and not by sales type by receipt.

Yeah thats all I was saying when they rang up the HD DVD's on the screen it said something about Blu Ray and not HD DVD's.

Some people stated they punched in a code #2. They didnt with all the one's I purchased. It all stated Blu Ray.

And the code on the All my Reciepts says:

SL 1 PKG 0000000324B - I assume this is the Blu Ray BOGO code..

So everytime two movies either HD dvd or Blu Ray that I bought this code would be above two movies.

Just wondering if all reciepts rang up like that.

This can be closed I was just curious thats all..

Indeed. Couple titles I want but unwilling to pay full price for.

Actually, how ironic would it be if the HDDVD people who took advantage of CC stores to get the BOGO on HDDVD discs, would have their sales count as BD purchases. And if these numbers would influence Warner to then go BD exclusive after the first of the year, that would be like Dante's 5th level of Hell. Well, for AV freaks anyway.

Uh, no. He's wondering if HD DVDs purchased through the BOGO at CC actually got counted as Blu-rays. Meaning, of course, that HD DVD would have been undercounted while Blu-ray would have been overcounted. Or, to put it simply, that HD DVD's numbers might have been better if there had been no error (assuming, of course, that there was an error)! Do I need to go on? :D

My theory on this (again it's just mine) when HD-DVD and Bluray came out, CC only stocked Bluray for a long time (I know because I bought HD-DVD first) I would go in and ask if they would ever stock HD-DVD and CC would respond, "Why, it's a format that's not going anywhere" then they would try and sell me a Bluray player.

So when the numbers started rolling in and lo and behold Bestbuy was actually making money off HD-DVD sales, CC made an abrupt turn and started carrying HD-DVD. I think at this point they just classified all movies as BluRay (instead of updating their system) because they still believe that BluRay will win the war. Which is obvious whenever I go into CC and see 20 or so titles on HD-DVD and a buttload of Blurays.

I think whenever they make any HD disc sale it just comes up as Bluray, maybe to say, "see, Bluray is selling all this and we get none for HD-DVD". I don't know for sure, maybe the president of CC gets a hummer from his wife if Bluray wins and he has to make dinner for her if HD-DVD wins. So he rigs the totals to say Bluray for all. No matter what here's hoping for more BOGO sales and so the pres can look at the top of his wifes head. :p Who cares.

We all win when there is competition and could care less if it said Monkeychunks on the reciept, as long as I get the BOGO deal. :D
