On 12/18 WB will release Blade Runner to both formats. This is a highly anticipated title. And by the goodness of WB it is priced right.

I don't think the price shift will matter much to the sales ratio, although it's certainly nice for HD DVD fans and their wallets.

Who cares what the sales ratio will be? I just want my copy delivered in a reasonable amount of time. WHV has apparently dropped the ball on my copy of 2001 since it hasn't even shipped yet.

I think a better poll would be "How long will it take WHV to ship the preorders of Blade Runner?"

Ah . . the price is the same for both formats . . MSRP $39.99 for a 5 disc box set.

Really? It is back in the theaters (abiet 2 today) as we speak with an increase of about 15 others in the USA.

5 versions of the film - 2 never seen before.

Translated: This is a classic film that may appeal more to HD-DVD fans and the HD-DVD does not have the combo "handicap" so we'd better start dismissing it now. :D

Nah, I think Bland has a point. Geeks like Blade Runner. Geeks adopted HD-DVD first. It's a fine line, but I think it's there. Having said that, I still think Blu will sell more, just not more than their current sales ratio lead.

So is this 5/4 rounding?
I would say between 1.76:1 and 2:1 in favour of Blu-ray.

Star Trek TOS will do better on HD DVD than Blade Runner.
High School Musical 2 will do better on Blu-Ray.

+1

It's a GREAT movie, but SO SO off most folks radars.

Only the forum world will jump on it for the most part.

it depends how they sell it. If it's only online like most catalog titles then it will flounder. If it's in the stores Dec, it will still founder but preform slightly better. Now if it's part of promotional drive that will change everything.

It'll probably be in the normal ratio of dual format movies. But the volume will be so low it won't matter

if the price and performance is the same, most dual format users will opt for the Blu-ray version. If HD-DVD is smart, they should make it at least 2 dollars cheaper.

I think that the "classic" status is offset by the fact that it is hardcore nerd material which would give Blu-ray an edge. I think there was even a Blade Runner video game that came out several years ago. I think this cyberpunk classic connects with the PS3 crowd very well.

Overall I don't think these factors really make a big difference and it will most likely follow the 2:1 trends we have seen. I'm probably going to buy whichever version is available since I predict much like the Kubrick discs it might be hard to find when it is first released.

Are we to assume that the higher numbers in your poll are the Blu Ray values? It's not real clear what the two parts of the ratio are.
