Just a word of caution if you use APE, Application Enhancer, which is used by many GUI hack apps. Uninstall APE before you do an Upgrade install! It can and will cause a potential hang on the first reboot after running the Leopard install disc. Check to see if you have any of the following and remove if necessary, they can cause many headaches:

Remove the following files:
/Library/Preference Panes/Application Enhancer.prefpane
/Library/Frameworks/Application Enhancer.framework
/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Application Enhancer.bundle
/Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist

The funny thing is I thought I had uninstalled all those a while ago but only the pref pane was gone. Just FYI.

Hmmm, installed first thing this morning with no issues.

Anyone with Toast 8? I have 7 -- I'm guessing Roxio was looking for a way to force people to upgrade...

perian is not working properly

black screens on most movies but audio plays.
other movies have video playing but no audio

also...not sure if coincidence or not...but my external LaCie drive is having major spin-down issues since upgrading to leopard. It will constantly try to sleep, to the point where every minute it needs to "wake up" or "warm up". btw...yes, i have the option to "sleep hard drives when possible" unchecked.

EDIT: I decided to try other codecs...and i got 3ivx, divx, xvid, and a52 installed....all working and now no problems with video.
MKV files play fine in VLC.

Front row is still having major issues with codecs though.

I've only tested Popcorn 1.0.3 so far, on a Macbook, works just fine in Leopard.

I have a LaCie d2 over firewire, it has an Oxford chipset, no problems at all post upgrade, but I do have "put hard disks to sleep when possible" checked. The LaCie d2 also has its own special firmware applied, that's what allows these drives to power down the moment your Mac sleeps. Two other externals connected to Leopard Macs are just fine as well, a Seagate Freeagent Pro over USB and a Stardom dual drive hardware RAID 1 over USB.

Some of the HT stuff I've used with a Macbook that's Leopard compatible: EyeTV (though it's lost Apple remote functionality), VLC, Popcorn, MTR, Firefox, Camino, smcFanControl, temperature monitor, wakeonlan.

What doesn't work so far is Max and SuperDuper--and frankly, from a home theater perspective, SuperDuper is more important than Time machine to get working...

Turn your Mac off.
Let it sit without power for a few mins
Then start up
Try the HDs then.
I had the same problem with all my external LaCie drives but the power off and connect seems to help.

For some reason the Apple Remote stopped working on my MacMini under Leopard -- it was working fine in Front Row/EyeTV and then it just stopped. Tried the other one (I have two which I use interchangeably, they aren't paired) and it didn't work either. Reboot didn't help. The Security tab in System Preferences does not disable or pair the remote.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What's the street price on this new OS?

Free with a new or refurb Mac?

We got the Family Pack for $165 with the Apple government employee discount, since we have 5 Macs at home.

Have no idea what the best single license price is, Amazon has had it for $109.

D'oh, I missed Chef's post about EyeTV/Leopard/Remote incompatibility -- but what you should keep in mind is that if EyeTV is the foreground app, the remote can't launch Front Row either.

Wow, I thought retail for a single user was $129. Thanks, Best Buy!

Can anyone verrify if Final Cut Studio 1 (specifically FCP 5.1.4, and DVDSP 4) work with Leopard. I have read mixed things about it on the Apple forums.

JollysFastVnc doesn't work with Leopard ARD -- no right mouse click. It worked fine with Tiger ARD. Leopard screen sharing right click works, but screen sharing has no full screen mode -- just scaling or scrolling. None of the other vncs are fast enough to consider. Lose, Lose. Also, were we not supposed to get a fancy space selector widget in the dock? The menu bar do-hickey is lame.

They both seem to work OK AFAICT on my Mac Pro, I think many of the people having problems with FCP 5.1.4 are on PPC Macs though. In any event I would STRONGLY recommend against installing Leopard on any mission critical production machine until Apple certifies it for use.
