Hi all, I've used this forum for many years, just never posted before, you guys all rock. Anyway, I have an odd problem with my ol' Toshiba 46H84 that I recently moved from my old apartment to my new place.

Didn't notice it till I moved in, but now there is a strange 2" line or so that starts at the top of the display and continues diagonally from the top of the screen. When I move the tv, like jiggle it back and forth, it looks like the line moves. I'm thinking it might be something that actually fell inside the TV and is sitting there right now.

My question is, would it be a really bad idea to take the cover off the back of the TV and try to see what it is, or should I try to get someone to repair it? I don't have any TV hardware experience, but I'm pretty good with computer hardware and I know how to be careful with exposed electronics.
I didn't want to post any pictures yet unless someone thinks it's important.

Thanks.

Better description or link to a picture would help. Could be anything from a spiderweb to a cracked mirror. Yes someone will need to open it up and look inside.

It doesn't look like a spiderweb, it's pretty thick, and also ends very abruptly.

Any idea what these kinds of repairs would cost? Is it something I would want to send to an authorized repair shop, or would any TV repair place do?

Here is a picture of it, fairly close up.

That's a piece of tape or wire hanging down behind the screen or in front of the mirror.

That's sorta what I was hoping it was. Do you think it's possible for me to just remove the casing & take it out? Any sort of precautions I need to be taking?

I've never seen this model, so I can't say how to get at it. But, myself , I would unplug the TV and remove the lower back cover and look in there to see if it's possible to reach up into the top from the back. Otherwise, you have to figure out how to remove the screen assy.

Just wanted to let you all know that I finally got around to fixing this issue. I took off the back cover and there was a small box with a wire connected to it that had fallen out of its place.
I replaced it, and put the cover back on, now the TV is fine again. Is this a receiver? The wires were coming out of one side of it and running across the edge of the screen.
Thanks for the help & advice.

I think that is the IR receiver for the remote control, but I am not sure.

Also, if anyone else ever needs to open up their set, I would refer them over to the H83/H84 thread, starting with this posting (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9527925#post9527925) by Pittdog1.
