Just got both discs and can't play either of them. Similar to when Children of Men came out.

I cleaned both discs (which helped with other discs like Casino) and still can't get them to start playing :mad:. I hear the "serious" seek/playback sound when the disc goes in, and then three rounds of the "lost" seek sound, and then nothing.

Other discs play just fine. I tried them while cleaning the discs. I use a tissue for cleaning optics, which is pre-moisted, which worked for other discs with problems in the past - except for COM which required a replacement disc. This is on a 360 add-on.

Has anybody else ran into this and managed to work around it?

Mmmm, nope. I have a 360 drive connected to my PC and I dropped in 2001. Played normally.

The Shining is now happy after a couple of cleanings. 2001 is still no go.

Both play perfect on my A1.

I do make it a point to look at each new disc I buy and blow off any specs of dust off with canned air.

There was a spec or two on 2001 & full metal jacket.

Had a bit of glitchiness around the 28 minute mark of the Shining on two different players. It is clean as could be so I'm exchanging it tomorrow.

X360 HD-DVD addon has potential reading problem.

2 of my discs (Eagle & James Taylor concert) previously unreadable on the X360 addon can be read by XA-2 without a slight problem. Luckily I didn't throw them away :p (I opened them 4, 5 weeks after I bought them and receipt has gone).

My copy of The Shining worked fine with my updated A35...

Second copy of the Shining worked fine, bad disc.

I ended up buying another 2001 disc and that one worked fine. Need to return the first one, never got it to play.
