A starfield ceiling then...

They are DIY and you get a lot of bang for your buck. You can even go as far as modeling the Milky Way sky. You can Google some cool astronomy sites too.

BTW - I really like the drive in theme.:)

Edit - check out this guy's star ceiling (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10572789#post10572789).

Try putting some metal poles around the room with the drive in speakers on them. You could get creative and get some old car seats (mustang, camaro, whatever floats your boat) and have a base mounted to them so you can use them for seating. Try looking at some 50's diner websites, maybe get some ideas there.

You could even light the inside of the drive in speakers for atmosphere. Just use a low temperature, low voltage light like LED or rope light.

Or maybe wire the speakers for sound to play music while your guests are milling around getting ready for the show.

Put crushed rock down for the floor.

May be pattern the architecture of your screen wall after a drive in screen:

If you do a drive in theme you have to have a Creature from the Black Lagoon Pinball in the room.

Put crushed rock down for the floor.

and a little fan to swirl dust around too.:p

On one of the home improvement shows (don't remember which one) they used a car trunk for seating. Open the trunk lid and inside was cushions for two people I think.

The drive in is a very neat idea. Very wide range of options you could run with.

Forget building a drive in theater themed room. Just buy a convertible and put a screen and sound system in the garage.

Seems like a cool theme although the decorating is beyond my creative level. Look forward to seeing some pictures of what you come up with.

In the archives there's a thread by Robert Wood about putting his projector on the dashboard of his car, and projecting outside on a wall through the windshield. The screen width was something like 40 feet.

One reason for putting it in the car was to keep the bugs away from the light (he lived, at the time at least, in the Florida panhandle).

Everyone that comes over to check it out has to hide in the trunk

Still one of my favorite inspirations if I wanted an outdoor look to the theater

http://www.tktheaters.com/gallery/southbeach/

Instead of a skyline, a parking lot full of 2-d cutouts of cars on either side
