I currently have a Hitachi 51F59. I was in a store the other day that sells used demo/display equipment and saw a Mitsubishi WD-52631. They are selling it for $800...I could sell my TV and come up with another couple hundred bucks to get it.

I have basic cable TV. I use the TV 80% of the time for my xbox360. I also have some over-the-air broadcast HD channels that I think this TV can pick up that I would also be useing it for.

Basically what is boils down to is....is this TV worth the $400 or so dollars that I would have to pay to get it?? Or should I stick with my Hitachi? A good friend of mine has the WD-65731 wich is the same model but bigger, and I think the picture on his set is much...MUCH better than mine! Better blacks, richer colors, and sharper lines, all wich make a huge difference between his TV and mine.

I haven't got a professional calibration, but i've gone through the Avia DVD to get it as close as possible....but the picture still doesn't measure up to my friends WD-65731.

What should I do?

I was almost decided on buying this tv, it was about $1350 at Circuit City. Went I originally saw it has betetr colors and rich detail then both Sony and Samsungs I saw. I honestly don't know why I didn't get it, but the possiblities of seeing rainbows was I think the main reason. If anything is gonna be visible on my set that is going to distract me then I can't see myself buying a set like that. That is the reason why I recently bought a tv. If you can over look rainbow then I think that set is great. I might have to go look at that set again it's 2 inches bigger than the Sony I settled with.

You probably just need to clean your current optics.

I've only had this TV for a little over a year. I pulled off the back panel a couple of weeks ago and the mirror was clean and there was thin layer of dust on the lenses wich I cleaned off...didn't seem to make much of a difference.

For the difference i'd pay to get the Mitsubishi I could get a calibration, but I don't think it's going to get me the quality of picture i'm going to get from that DLP.

On the other hand, I bought my TV new so I know it's been well taken care of. I don't know the history on the Mitsubishi.

Crt/Rp tech can and will deliver the best picture of ANY available display. If you choose to take a step down, that, of course, is up to you but you already have, in your home, the potential for the best picture out there. For the cost of professional calibration you could have a less detailed picture, regular bulb repacement, seized bearings in the color wheel etc. Tempting...

I didn't know a professional calibration could get such results as getting the picture quality of a DLP. I'll have to look for ISF calibrators in my N.E. Washington area.

Thanks for the advice.
