Looking to get a rear projection,
I had a quick question regarding infants...
My son loves to run up to the TV sometimes and bang the CRT Tube... IS this a problem with the Rear projection TVs?
Will he cause damage, and to what extent?
Sometimes it's easier to tame lions than toddlers, eh? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
It's not unusual to see reports of screen damage on this forum (most are plastic), and RPTV screens are expensive to replace. It's possible sometimes to buy additional homeowner's insurance that covers all damage to specifically listed items, but barring that I'd wait awhile before replacing that CRT if I were in your household.

Thanks for the info and the bad pun!
I am still using a sony Trinitron from 1989 (no lie!) and I just am dying for a new set. The picture is still working fine, going a little...speakers are going, but the receiver picks up the slack for that.
I don't watch a heck of a lot of TV, so I don't want to spend a fortune.
I will keep looking. Maybe a front projector!
Thanks again,

As kelpie mentioned, RP screens are made of plastic--although they're pretty resilient; the damage I've read about in these forums always had to do with some sort of foreign object gouging or literally knocking a hole clean through the screen. If you're talking about your son playing patty cake or high-five with it, I doubt he could inflict much damage to it. Now if he's playing pirates or home improvement with it, that might be a different story :D
You may also want to consider plasma. Plasma displays are made of glass--there's the plasma cell matrix itself and a protective layer in front of it (each layer probably isn't quite as thick as your ole CRT though). Panasonic and Vizio both have ardent supporters--just dip in to one of the numerous model-specific threads over in the plasma forums and you'll be able to find out more than you'll ever want to know...
