I own a JVC HD-P61R1U 61” high definition HD-ILA TV that I bought during a power buy in Dec 2005. Last spring/summer it started shutting down when I was watching it. The picture goes blank, the blue power light and the red LCD on the front panel flash, and I have no control over the TV, I cannot even turn it off with the power button. If I unplug it for a couple of seconds (2 to 5) then plug it back in I can restart it, and it works fine until next time it shuts down. At first, this happened about once a month now it is occurring about once a week. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

The first time it happened was after 9 months of ownership. For a while it would happen about once a month. Then more frequently. Finally multiple times in a row when trying to start the set.
The flashing lights indicate a problem with the bulb cicrcuit, so the first repair shop just sent us a new bulb. That fixed the problem for two weeks and then it started happening again at an interval of two weeks (roughly).
I referred the set to Costco's Concierge Service. Their repair shop took the set for two weeks and could not reproduce the problem! They tried to say that there must be something wrong with our power, but the set was on a real-time UPS 100% of the time. In the end, we returned the set to Costco for a full refund (after owning the set 15 months).
It seemed that the problem was in the electronics controlling the bulb startup. When the problem first started happening, the set could be restarted from the remote after about 2-3 minutes and would stay on with no issues. The fact that you have the same problem does suggest some particular component is marginal.
Hope this info helps.

It sounds like you have had the TV for almost 2yrs. This is heading toward life expactancy of the bulb. I am thinking the bulbs getting to the end of its life. the warmer these bulbs are the harder it is for the TV to keep them lite. So when the bulb runs at some temperature (x) the ability of the TV to keep it lite drops and occasionally it shuts off. When your TV shuts OFF due to POWER OFF or EMERGENCY you will not be able to power it back on for about 2minutes...this is about the time the fans will stop spinning. When you unplug it you do somewhat of a reset and the TV is allowed to power on sooner. The fact that you said it has occured more often over time suggests a bulb issue.
You can try replacing if this becomes annoying, otherwise forget about it. If it continues after replacement the issue may be with the ballast (bulb control and power). The cost of this part is about the same as the price of the bulb probably.
